New service, how much $ is the minimum.

Hello. I am starting new service with GoPhone, new line, new number. I am getting a new SIM from e@@@ that comes with $15 airtime.
Do I have to add more funds to activate on the $0.10/minute plan, or can I get started with the $15 air time included w/ the card.

Thank you all for any help or advice.

You're all set. You don't need have any balance on your GoPhone account in order to put it on the $0.10 a minute plan, but you need to have at least $10 in your account in order to port your number to GoPhone.

One thing I don't like is that the SIM cards are locked to the one phone that you use to activate the service for 180 days.

Thank you, but I can still use the phone I use to activate with another service like T-Mo right?

As long as the T-Mobile phone is unlocked and supports the necessary frequencies - 1900MHz or 850MHz, then it should work fine.

What I meant with the SIM card is the following. I recently activated a GoPhone account on my Samsung Galaxy S2 and when I put the GoPhone SIM card in another phone, it wasn't detected. At first I thought that there was something wrong with my phone, but upon further research, I've found out that the GoPhone SIM card is locked to my Samsung Galaxy S2 (the phone that I used to activate the service) and it won't work with any other phone for 180 days.

So when you activate the service, make sure that you do it with a phone that you'll definitely be using. Otherwise you will have to call AT&T customer service and from what I read some had success with it while others had to go to the AT&T store and get a need SIM.

Got it! Yes, the phone I will be using to activate is unlocked and is a quadband so I am good there. About the SIM card getting locked to the activation phone is all good information and I will keep that in mind. Thank you again!

I thought that only happened when you purchased the phone from ATT as well, but I wasn't really sure...

Will it be problematic if my phone is an iPhone 3GS? (I want to sign up for 10 cent/minute plan and then switch to $1 M2M). I heard that you could just use 111111111111111 as the IMEI in signup and everything would work fine.

I don't see why the iPhone wouldn't work with this plan, but other HF users would be able to give you a definite answer.

What I can tell you though is that I called AT&T yesterday and the lady unlocked my SIM card without a problem, so now it works with all of my GSM compatible phones.

My experience is that only SIMs with phones bought from ATT are locked. Either way it's good to know you can call to have them unlocked, easier than going into an Att store and telling them you lost your phone and getting a new free SIM. First I have heard of this, thanks.

Whenever I call 611 to fix a problem including the two times I called to change to the $1 m2m I have always switched the sim from my iphone to an old flip phone out an abundance of caution/paranoia. Even though using an iPhone on prepaid is perfectly cromulent it seems to create an opportunity for the rep to give you a hard time. If you don't have another phone to do this with I wouldn't worry about it too much. If they bring it up just tell them you don't use data, be persistent, ask for a supervisor, tell them you are going to switch to another carrier, etc.

My sister and I didnt even realize you could just put 1111's in place instead of a real number. I used a very old flip phone for the imei number then popped in the SIM card into her iPhone 3GS. So far so good, I put her on the $25 250 mins/Unlimited Texting + $5 50MB plan.
