    Galaxy S III on Bell - I747 vs T999

No doubt LTE version is faster when LTE is available. I happen to be unfortunate enough to not have LTE in some of the areas I frequent. I also happen to have two Bell SIMs (LTE plans) and both the Bell GS3 I747m and WINDs GS3 T999v.

T999 is consistently faster than I747 every time on HSPA+. Here's a side by side comparison. I747 on left, T999 on right.

Is there LTE coverage in Toronto PATH / Montreal RESO / Calgary +15 Skyway? I noticed on loxcel Bell has 8 base stations within 400 meters of my building but only 2 of those 8 is LTE capable (151 Front St)

How is the first hop latency on your LTE GSIII?

Wow.. so Bell doesn't have full LTE coverage in the PATH. I haven't walked through all of it yet, but TD Centre, HSBC Building are HSPA only. Commerce Court and Brookfield Place are both HSPA and LTE. FCP, DBRS Tower are LTE.

The outdoor base stations are mapped on loxcell. There aren't really a lot of LTE locations. I'm finding most of the time my phone will drop down to HSPA mode because that signal is stronger.

HSPA (similar to Wind when it actually works):

    LTE:

^^ Both tests are from a wired tether on I747 ^^

Looks like the T999 has 42 Mbps HSDPA while the I747 has 21 Mbps HSDPA along with the LTE.

HSDPA 42 is basically HSDPA 21 with 2x MIMO.

That test is very Wind-like, and ping spikes are obviously not good for OTT latency sensitive applications.

Let's try the other side of the building (LTE coverage is spotty not continuous)

Pretty sure this is using the 151 Front St roof top antenna

It's nice where it works, and not where it doesn't +__+

Very very spotty coverage, going to continue my walk through the core...

LTE coverage in Metro Hall PATH
Drops to HSPA while entering RBC Centre
HSPA only in RBC Centre PATH
HSPA only in Simcoe Place PATH:
-63 dBm, 24 asu HSPAP:15 in food court @ Simcoe Place

That reminds me of Wind. So maybe Wind's network issues aren't all its fault, HSPA just sucks balls.
*NO SIGNAL* on the PATH connection between RBC Centre, Ritz Carlton and Simcoe Place
*NO SIGNAL* in Ritz Carlton PATH
LTE coverage in Ritz Carlton lobby

Thanks! I tried samsung/bell/telus/rogers/AT&T website, none of them clearly says I747 support 21Mbps HSPA only

Lock your phone into HSPA only mode. Tell me if you gain your signal back in the PATH areas where you had no signal. HSPA does not "suck balls".

I was there again today but there's still no signal in the connection between Simcoe Place and RBC Centre/Ritz, the only visible repeater on the ceiling belongs to Wind (it was labelled so). I will have a better chance to test outdoor LTE coverage this weekend.

I had no LTE in the Eaton Centre food court (made a voip phone call here and other party said I was breaking up), spotty LTE driving north along Kipling Ave to Steeles and no LTE at my parents place in Humber Summit.

I was able to stream HiDef Mobile TV on HSPA, although in some cases it failed, when it worked the quality looked great.

I just started running coverage mapper on my GS3 but when choosing "LTE or better" in the dropdown box it's not showing any LTE coverage http://www.coveragemapper.com/map.php?mccmnc=302880. Paging canadiancow!

If someone wants to sell me an old LTE device...

I also don't like the fact that LTE shows up before HSPA+ in the dropdown.
