email icon and new email

i set up my work email address through the android email app on my samsung exhibit II. i sent an email from yahoo to my work email. the status bar on the phone shows i received an email. shouldn't the email app icon on the desktop show how many unread email i have.

on my ipads email app, it shows how many unread emails i have when i look at the email app icon on the desktop.

That would need to be a widget. If the icon is just a shortcut, it can't show anything. See if you can add the email app as a widget, or else try to download an app that gives you a widget that does what you want.

yes, try widget mail. Some phones have a # of unread emails on the shortcut, some don't. So yes, put a widget on your home screen.
