    Fido iPhone 3G Unlock

I looked around and it seems the policy for unlocking Fido phones is that you have to be a current customer. Anyone know if it's possible to get a Fido iPhone unlocked by just going to a Fido store and paying the $50 even if you aren't a customer anymore? I left probably before they even unlocked at all. But I paid them the ETF and DETF so I feel I deserve an unlock code.

Failing that, has anyone tried http://www.officialiphoneunlock.co.uk/ to unlock their Fido iPhone? I read on their Facebook page that they're still trying to reach an agreement with Fido...?

You need to have a current acct and you need to do it over the phone. The cheapest way is probably to open a prepaid line with them and then use that line to have it unlocked. They might make you wait 90 days though.

I don't see why Fido would enter an agreement with a 3rd party to do the unlocks. They charge $50 to do it themselves, so it is pure profit and only takes them a minute. Doesn't make sense they would hand that over to another company.

Could I get someone who has a Fido account to unlock my phone for me somehow?

Should be possible. Call and have them add the IMEI to their device history list, then call back and request the unlock.

Did you have a Fido account in the past? Cancelled accounts are eligible for unlock in some circumstances.

Edit: Well I clearly didn't read how you had cancelled before posting. That said, give them a call.

Do you know from experience or did you read somewhere that cancelled accounts are eligible for unlock? If so that would be the easiest thing to do.

Well, I work for them. As long as the account is paid in full, along with any applicable cancellation fees, you should be okay. Call to verify, though.

This was a couple years ago. You think they'll still do it?

If they do agree to do it, how would I pay anyway? They couldn't charge me on my closed account. Would I have to go to a store to pay?

Haven't been able to check the exact rules as I've been off. If I remember correctly they should be able to do it after the line has been cancelled, regardless of the length of time cancelled. You have to have a completely paid off account and you may have to pay over the phone for the $50 unlock fee. I may be off in the details, though.
