LTE coming to Fido this summer

LTE is coming to Fido this summer starting with Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and St. John's with more cities to come by the end of 2012.

The first device will be a the Fido Mobile Hotspot.

What do you guys think? Any of you chopping at the bit for LTE? My guess is they're launching it for the upcoming iPhone which will probably have LTE.

Nice. I hope they either allow all data plans access to LTE, or have some good plans ($30, 6GB) that are still eligible for the employee discount.

I'm moderately excited, but not getting my hopes up as they will probably refuse me access to LTE unless I dump my $50-unlimited data plan, and I'm not doing that. They'll have to pry it from my cold dead fingers.

this would be awesome ... if their plans were a bit more competitive.

Oddly, I've been thinking that it's not worth keeping my unlimited data package because the HSPA network in my area is so mediocre that it's not worth having, especially because of the premium price. If the LTE is in good shape and I can use it, maybe I'll stick with Fido for a while longer. I was going to port it to one of my backup PC Mobility accounts (also with unlimited data) as my needs will be reduced after the summer.

What phone are you using on Fido? The Nexus S?
I just retired my Nexus S in favor of a Galaxy Nexus that I picked up cheap...and WOW! What a difference in HSPA speed and performance. The Nexus S was terribly slow on data, I missed and dropped calls... All fixed with the GNex.

I get a similar improvement on my Nexus S when I pop in my PC Mobility (Bell network) SIM card. I don't have an explanation for the difference past a speculation that HSPA+ is also a workaround for a problem that is specific to Rogers HSPA (not HSPA+).
