It might be "officially" excluded from hardware upgrades, but I've been given full subsidy on my last two smartphones doing HUP

But what I meant is, you never know whether that particular plan will be excluded; it's already excluded from hardware upgrades.

That isn't what any of us were saying. We were saying that it may potentially be excluded from LTE or from future promotions - which is true. No one said that they expect CSRs to purposely try and boot people off those plans.

Lol you just mentioned how this was an opportunity to make changes when getting a new SIM. Then another user responded to that. Mass hysteria I tells yuh

^I said that it's an opportunity for carriers to force plans to be changed - which it is. Rogers forced you to upgrade to LTE plans. Bell took away grandfathered unlimited data plans. Why do you think it's "mass hysteria" to claim that Fido may do the same?

It isn't even technically necessary to have an "LTE SIM card" is it? So why would carriers want you to get one, unless they are trying to tell you that they don't view LTE identically to how they view 3G?

What kind of speeds can we expect with LTE, I know the theoretical max is 75Mbps so is it safe to assume to we can expect high 20's low 30's for download speeds. I still have another year and a half before my contract is up and I can get a LTE phone.

I consistently get 50mbps if I have good reception on my Rogers LTE stick. I get about high 20s to low 30s in areas with poor reception. Generally speaking, it's faster than my home internet connection. Sigh.

Wow those speeds are awesome, my home internet maxes out at 14Mbps. Hoping LTE chips advance in future phones so they don't slaughter battery like they do currently. Otherwise in my opinion on smart phones Battery > LTE

It is indeed technically necessary to get an LTE SIM, there are special applications installed on these new-generation SIM cards.

Can you elaborate a bit on these special applications? Are they necessary for somebody wanting to use LTE, or do they enhance your use of LTE somehow?

Or is it more like, "carriers are now using a new LTE APN, which isn't pre-programmed into older generation SIM cards" - which would lead back to my previous point which is that it is not technically necessary, it's only necessary because carriers made it so.

By the way I'm not trying to be ignorant - I'm here to learn.

No...pretty sure you're just being annoying

HC No I can explain better...all I know is YOU CANNOT GAIN LTE ACCESS WITHOUT AN LTE SIM CARD

Fact: An LTE SIM card is needed in order to obtain LTE service with Carriers currently offering LTE, AFAIK.

If you really wish to learn, just Google for the answers and then edu-ma-cate the rest of us. Thank you

You dont really need to educate people. Less people know about LTE. Less people on the LTE network. More bandwith speed for me! bru-hah-hah!
