Sim question

Can't use data with simple mobile sim. I have a bunch of blank sims for simple mobile. I decided to sign up for tmo prepaid using one of them and an activation code I had.

Signup worked and calls worked but not data. Tech support told me I was using an outdated sim. Tmo gave me a new one and everything worked fine.

Yet simple mobile can work with data on the same type of sim. I had them before.

Again I signed up for the daily plan on another simple mobile sim because I needed lots of minutes for a day. Date failed again.

What's going on?

Helps to know what phone. A branded phone may not need it, but most phones require manually adding/editing the data APN.
