    Metro's June 2012 Earnings Call

On today's earnings conference call, a couple things were stated by Tom Keys and Roger Lindquist.

"We are working closely with various OEMs and plan to introduce 4G LTE smartphones in the $99-$149 price range in late August" -Tom Keys

"During the third quarter, we plan on introducing the first VoLTE enabled handset. We plan to introduce additional VoLTE handsets this year to further capitalize on the benefits of this technology and prepare for refarming spectrum" -Roger

Of course, they've made promises like this before and their failures are well-documented on these boards.

But since we're 30 days away from late august, and 60 days from late third quarter, I think the visibility must be pretty good.

"By the end of the year, most of our markets will be LTE-ready with 5x5 spectrum," Linquist said.
MetroPCS will launch 6 to 7 LTE handsets by year-end.

The company also reported that it now has 700,000 LTE subscribers, representing about 8 percent of its total base. That's up from 500,000 subscribers at the end of the first quarter.

Interestingly, MetroPCS, which has said it will offer Voice over LTE this year, also said it would launch a Rich Communications Services platform that would enable its move to IMS and allow the company to offer advanced services such as letting customers make calls and send video simultaneously.

Company executives also talked about MetroPCS' plans to refarm its existing 3G spectrum for LTE and continue to search for more spectrum opportunities. Regarding Clearwire's (NASDAQ:CLWR) 2.5 GHz spectrum, MetroPCS executives said that the 2.5 GHZ spectrum is useful, particularly in areas where a dense network is necessary. But they also said that the spectrum was an "expensive option" and noted that Clearwire's plan to build a TD-LTE network--scheduled to launch in June of next year--may have "time to market" issues.

If metro comes through, it will be impressive. Not many carriers impress me these days but metro is starting to, a little bit.

They had an aggressive stance when they first started rolling out lte but die down to the point that sprint almost bought them now they have started to change things around hopefully they will deliver the goods it feels good to see them getting aggressive again.

I don't know how many total customer metro has but I wouldn't be surprised if they eventually become a formidable player.

seems like a pretty quick turnaround regarding promises this time. last years promises had a more distant future for their ETA. Hopefully, like coramdeo said, they're confident and deliver.
