To be clear, PenTile is, both in its origins and its persistence, an economical compromise. I don't believe you have attempted to represent it otherwise.

HTC is a damn good "part assembler" and the Rezound is a helluva cellphone.

Apple is also very good at what it does. It is stable reliable qualiity -- for the conformist set. I recently posted this in another thread:

"Yes. That's very true. You can 'rely' on steady work, adequate food, a place to sleep, and a roof that doesn't leak when you're incarcerated. It's a 'stable' environment.
"The term 'jailbreaking' was coined fot the iPhone, after all."

A 'Pro' version of this N7 with correct display settings, and the stuff I mentioned above, might not be more capable, stable, or smooth than an iPad, but it would be less confining and more adaptable to my personality, foibles, and idiosyncrasies.

I surely hope I haven't tried to represent it otherwise because that would most certainly be an inaccurate representation. It is indeed a compromise and it's really up to the market in general to decide if it accepts it or not by buying the phones. Samsung seems to be getting some nice cash flow despite the Gnex, Gnote and SGS III all using RGBG layouts so it appears your average consumer doesn't really care.

When I mention Apple's products I'm purely talking from a display perspective. If Samsung would start calibrating their OLED displays instead of having them at "SUPER AMAZING 140% sRGB MEGA COLOR!" settings then they'd probably be the best screens out there for watching video. This also holds true for your N7 which is an AMOLED device. Just a note. Too large a color gamut is visually worse than too small.

But as it stands if you don't buy an Apple device(Note, the iPhone 4/4S is indeed undersaturated and leans away from the blue and red points of the sRGB gamut, this will almost certainly be remedied in the next model which will be based upon the iPad 3 for display quality) you get stuck with undersaturation or oversaturation, and just generally poor calibration because most manufacturers honestly don't give a damn. What makes the Rezound a "helluva cellphone"? Until their One line of cellphones all their devices have been S-LCD which is a fancy name for TN panels. So it's 18bit color + dithering on the Rezound. Looks like an HTC Raider with a bumped up resolution and worse color, oh and CDMA support for Verizon of course.
