Question How to Sell a T-Mo BlackBerry

I really don't want to, but I'm going to have to give up my T-Mo Blackberry Curve 9300.

The place I'm moving to has zero T-Mo signal and only intermittent AT&T signal. I took readings yesterday and the signal's too unstable to use even with an amp. So I plan to sell the T-Mo BB.

I presently have T-Mo's no-contract monthly unlimited service on the BB ($60.00/month). I'm leaning toward getting a new number on StraightTalk rather than porting the T-Mo number, which means the T-Mo account won't automatically be closed.

My question: If I simply just don't refill the account, and then do a wipe on the BB, will the person I sell it to have any problem re-activating the BBerry on their own account?

In other words, with regard to the phone being used by someone else, is there any need for me to "cancel" or "close" the T-Mo prepaid account, or can I just let it die on its own by not refilling it?

    Thanks,

    Richard

none of this is complicated. Your account is tied to the SIM card, not the phone. Welcome to the GSM world.

take SIM card out, wipe BB, done. Sell BB.

Let account lapse, or call and cancel. Either way you lose whatever money may be left in the account. Welcome to the prepaid world. (Ummmm.....you don't have a credit card tied to some silly auto-renew mechanism, do you? If you do, of *course* you'll have to cancel THAT. And never do that again.)

All the ATT/Sprint/Verizon Wireless contract service crap has invaded people's minds to the point where everyone thinks he's married to the carrier and has to go through Donald Trump-like proceedings to get a divorce from the carrier. Not so with GSM and prepaid.

If your phone has 1900 just get a SIM card that works on big blue. Or maybe you could buy a signal repeater.

As for selling your black Berry. You can try eBay, But not many people are interested in rim anymore unless they need it for their company or if they reside in England.

A local.cellular shop will buy it of you, But not the price you would want to sell it.

Thanks for the replies. I suspected that all the account-specific data was on the SIM. I was just wondering if I had to actively cancel the account to make the phone ready for sale. You confirmed my hunch that all I have to do is remove the SIM and wipe the phone.

I don't have auto-refill enabled. They do have my credit card number saved, but it doesn't get charged automatically. I'll delete that, though.

The AT&T signal is too weak for a repeater to do much good unless use a Yagi. If it were stable at -110 or better, then maybe I could get around that. But it's not.

I'm pretty sure I could snag it with a Yagi, but then between the cost of the Yagi, the repeater, and whatever AT&T would charge me for the BIS plan, it just wouldn't be worth it. Besides, even with a repeater, that would only help me on my property, essentially tying me to the house.

Also, I'm more concerned about mail than voice, quite frankly. I almost never get voice calls that are important. But the mail - that's important. And say what you will, I don't think anyone does mail as well as RIM.

In fact, my original plan was to just keep the Berry and use it on UMA off my Wi-Fi. But again, that would tie me to the house, so I changed my mind on that.

Within about a 60-mile radius of where I live, T-Mo actually has good coverage in most places and is very popular. Where I'm moving happens to be one of the exceptions. I don't think I'd have a hard time selling it locally on Craig's List if I'm reasonable about the price.

    Thanks again for the help,

    Richard

    T-Mobile's wifi calling on BB

Have you looking in to the T-mobile Wifi calling on your BB, I did my BB on a wifi calling via my home wifi network, because I can't get the T-mobile signal at my house. It works wonderfully and it also works when I travel oversea via Hotel's wifi network, people call me with my local T-mobile number when I was not in the US. Most of BB have UMA (wifi calling) function build-in already...

The other options for prepaid BB service in your area are Boost mobile cdma, Virgin Mobile and Verizon prepaid. All have some degree of Bis and/or Bes support. VM/Boost has Sprint coverage, Verizon has unlimited data /higher prices but some degree of byod.

I'd sell the Tmo berry on Craigslist for cash asap if I were you.
