You could have them order & ship it to you. Better yet, be a "good boy" and just spend $15 on them![]()

I've been using ST for a few weeks now and I really enjoy it. My parents are now considering switching. Their town falls under the coverage map(and I get coverage when I visit them). But when they go to order their SIM cards and enter their ZIP code, it tells them that ST doesn't offer service in their area.
If they enter my ZIP code in the box and order it, will ST cut off their service if they are always calling from their 'non-covered' zip code?
EDIT: I only live 80 miles from my parents.

if your parents are like me they desire no ST drama. the drama would occur if they get noticed that their phone is never home.
they probably are fond of their phone numbers. you might consider porting their numbers to google voice first. then you would not have to pay attention. just react if needed.
i am unclear how they would react, if at all. i just want to be in a solid position.
Not sure what the process might be but I do know of several people who registered their phones outside of the standard ST zip codes and have had no problem whatsoever. One of them has been using ST for well over a year with no issue whatsoever.
I've always believed, coverage aside, that the ulterior reason for ensuring residences match zip codes is for tax reasons. For instance, the city of Moreno Valley (92557) used to (or still does?) levy a city utility tax on cellular service. If you lived in such a city, and deliberately used another zip code to obtain service, then you would be avoiding the city's utility tax.
The word I got from ST was to go ahead and have them order using my ZIP code. Their town(my hometown) won't have any special taxes on cell phone usage. My dad has ordered his. He has a 1st gen AT&T iPhone that he's been using as an iPod for the last few year or two. I jailbroke/unlocked it last week and tested my SIM in it and it works fine. He's going to port his number over from VZW and start using his iPhone.
My mother and sister will probably be making the jump in a few weeks once they pick their phones. I was the guinea pig. The last 2 weeks I have traveled from St. George, UT to Los Angeles, then back up to St. George, and then up to Loa, UT(the middle of nowhere), and then up to southern Idaho. I had service for most of the time. I'm enjoying ST so far.
no no no ...... i used a nj zip code and i have been using my phone in Florida for 3 months ... no issues, they just want to make sure the area you are using it in has service.
Got my zip code in Hawaii, live here for six months, live in Dallas, TX for six months, I have two lines, never got texted, called or emailed any warning, so I don't see any problems, but then again, nothing is written in stone.
Well, we got the phone working on Wednesday, no problems. I think he'll tire of his 1st gen Iphone real quick though, but that's not STs fault. Eventually he'll want 3G and buy a real phone, er, android.
Yep. I think the ZIP code is mainly used for coverage and assigning phone numbers (the phone number will be somewhat local to the ZIP code, though not always the most local phone number that AT&T has.)
Internet at work and with a Nexus 4 on Straight Talk with AT&T.

That's good to know. Well, at least we have the option now of switching carriers if need be.
My little sis likes my Captivate so my dad ordered her a used one(spoiled snot.....doesn't need a smart phone :P). He's got an AT&T SIM coming for her.
