Try the Vonage app, its free, No need for google-voice, it works with your actual cell number. Only problem is, it only works for outgoing calls. Not sure it would work for incoming calls.

Hello. Just joined T-Mobile with the $30 dollar plan and ported my number from Straight Talk. (ISNT THAT HARD AS PEOPLE MAKE SEEM LIKE IT IS)! I have a new HTC One S and its great and I get even better speeds than Straight Talk. My only problem is minutesI already used up like 25% of my minutes the first day. What are the best VoIP apps to use? What I mean by best is like the app is actually able to use your mobile phone number. I've tried Talkatone and the quality is great but I don't like how it doesn't use your own mobile phone number. I wouldn't mind paying a reasonable price for the app buy free is always good also
Thanks

I thought you can only use the Vonage app with users who have the Vonage app. I heard that there are rates for Vonage also.

Line2 is pretty good but its $10 a month (unlimited calling and sms,but mms not yet fully supported).
Alternatively, I think what some people usually do is port their number to google voice and then use apps to make and receive calls. Here's a thread on that: http://www.howardforums.com/showthre...h-Google-Voice
I think you jumped ahead a step by porting your number though to TMO.
No and no.
Where did you hear that?
Right now Vonage Mobile is no cost. They did charge, and may charge again in the future; but right now it's free.
Even if they start charging, their rates should be WELL below the ten cents/minute that tmo charges once you use up the 100 minutes that's in the $30 plan. With all that 4G data, one might as well use it up with VoIP.
Your right thanks very much

Google Voice + Sipdroid or CSipSimple over PBXes isn't a bad option and is completely free.

A free google voice phone number and the $5 Groove IP app works great. If you don't want to pay for an app, then try Talkatone - there have been good reports about that app and it is free.

if you're not privy to porting your number to google voice, some voip/sip providers may allow specifying your own outgoing callerid. obviously, you wouldn't be able to trunk with google voice, so it wouldn't be free.

dunno why people make a big deal bought porting there number. just give them the gv number and if you make calls using it that's the number that shows up anyways. change phones the number always stays the same. they can call that number and contact any phone you have set to it. i used talkatone even on a edge connection and it worked like a champ. of course don't rely on edge not to fail often congestion insane pings and random slowdowns. but at around 2 am est i was talking to another buddy using it just fine.
Bobsled and vonage offer the best call quality but are only useful for out bound calls. Groove IP always had terrible call quality for me in solid 4g coverage.
Mileage may vary on VoIP. Mine was inconsistent ( GrooveIP ), i.e. quality. Give it a try. I'm now back to using GV when at PC and keeping a balance so if I do run over I'm charged .10/minute.
the problem with GrooveIP is to get the qualty you have to set everything by hand play with it enough and it works vs talkatone that works out of the box.
