Just got 4g prepaid Tmobile, not happy with coverage. Now what?

    So,

I just ported my number from Virgin Mobile to Tmobile Prepaid. I bought the Exhibit phone with a $50 service card for $180, not bad.

The 4g coverage works great everywhere I have been, except at my work. I mostly wanted the 4g data plan to play around with at work when I am bored.

The service drops down to edge, and none of my internet apps work. I figured they would just run slower on edge, but then sometimes it drops down to voice/text only. I can't even get emails when connected to the edge network.

What are my options to get better service here, do I need to move to a postpaid Tmobile account to get data roaming? Are there any other carriers that will work with my tmobile phone that I just bought?

    Thanks,
    JH6

Roaming for prepaid gives access to call and text only. If you want data, go for postpaid.

You can use it on at&t or any other networks that uses sim card if you can sim unlock it...

lesson for next time: don't port your number until after you're sure you like the new service.

Prepaid is great: just sign up and use it. If you don't like it, you dump it.

There's no need to port your number over at the same time you start the new service. Just keep the old service alive until you've found the new service that you want to keep.

Even if you switch to postpaid, they're capping data roaming aggressively. I only get 100MB of domestic data roaming on my 5GB web plan. It's probably easier to just return the phone and move on to try something else. You should probably ask around at work to see what everyone else is on to make sure it will work there and on 3G/4G, not 2G.
Castrol EDGE 5W-30 is my drug of choice.

Don't overlook the possibility of sticking to Wi-Fi at work, if it's allowed/available. It'd be a shame to have to ditch your new setup just because of iffy coverage in only one area.

What happens then? Will it slow down or will they block your access to the net after?

Your data completely stops working if you reach your domestic data roaming cap. Bit of a hassle but hey, it's a sacrifice I'm willing to make knowing that I'm paying less than on any other carrier.

Even if you roam on att, you will only get edge speed. Get a penta band phone so you can use both.

i only get edge at work to and a couple weak wifi sports. if you know how to play with it you can do everything on edge. i do you youtube streaming radio and even online games just fine. i even teatherd and played tor. most of the net is all bought bandwidth eating super hd but with a few apps like tube-mate you can get the low bandwidth videos still the ones they hide for non smart phones. if you dont mind using your pc you can use orb to stream all your video for a slow connection that includes hulu.

You may want to see if either simple mobile or straight talk sim(t-mobile) will work for you. I hope they don't give you this data roaming bs because they are only doing prepaid.

If you believe you are going to stick with Androids for a while you may want to consider porting your number to google so that you don't have to worry about experimenting with these various prepaids.

If you still have a choice, return the phone and get a pentaband 3g phone which will give you better flexibility. Then you are free to play around with all of the cheap prepaid mvnos.
