Didn't notice it having been mentioned yet, but the $40 and $45 Smart plans have a double your voice/data promo going on. Maybe makes it a bit more appealing at that price point.

so the CSR who told me my cancellation fee would be 12,50$ didn't tell me I would be on a new 3-year contract (my previous 3-year was ending in january 2013) . And now your telling me I just got hooked on for 50$ cancellation fees just to be on a regular phone plan. The only "benefit" I have is a measly 5$ credit per month. If I didn't have close to 200$ fido dollars I would change right now....

So you are in Quebec/Manitoba? If so, then yes, you were misinformed about the cost of cancellation.

I called back and the lady still confirmed it was 12,50$. I guess when the time comes I'll be able to pay that since TWO csr told me the same thing.

Honestly it doesn't matter if 2 or 10 or 100 CSR's told you something. You now know the information you recieved was incorrect. If you are really unhappy about the actual cancellation fee terms (despite the fact that you stand to gain much more than $50 over three years) an honest person would do the right thing and call Fido to reverse the $5 credit and remove the contract.

I plan to buy the new Iphone when it comes out, so I'll only "profit" from this 5$ credit for what 4-5 months, and pay a 12,50$ penalty to get a new contract. If I'm going to pay a 50$ than it's not worth it. I believe it does matter what the CSR says, they were both Quebec-french speaking so they must know the laws and rules applying to their company.

If you currently don't have a 36 Months Voice+Data package you must switch to the new Fido Max Package in order to get an handset discount for the newest iPhone 5...

I receive a e-mail a couple of days ago from the president office to telling me that i'm not available to this plan after my complaint to the CCST. I reply with all my argument and tell him i want to go with the complaint and let the CCST investigate.

Yesterday i receive a call from Fido and they told me they will take my 2 iPhone and cancel the service without the penalty because of my complaint...for 10$/month, they choose to lose 150$/month...

Anyways, now i'm with Virgin and paid around 40$ less per month.

I've been in Spain for the last 3 years, returning in Sept. In comparison to the big3, Fido's plans aren't that bad. Just the phone line up is terrible. To be honest when you compare everyone... it looks like they are all owned by the same company.... especially with that $60 fiasco.

Is network quality on a Fido phone close to one on Rogers? I remember before they were sharing networks. I hope Fido actually even has The New Iphone when it comes out in September. I'm tempted to say Rogers would delay releasing it on Fido.

You will, most likely, have no problem having them charge $12.50 to break the agreement. That said, it may be worth making sure that has been documented on the account if you have not already done so.

In happier news, the $50 smart plan is now unzoned. There is also a new $55 max plan which is essentially the $30 standard plan jammed all up with 500 MB of data.

    On the Fido website:

    http://www.fido.ca/web/content/monthly/smartplans

    The $50 standard plan says:

    No Zone Restriction***
    Limited time offer† †

    In the fine print:

***Use your airtime anywhere on the Fido network. Long distance charges may apply
† †Offer ends September 30, 2012 and is subject to change without notice.

Does this mean that I can have Canada wide calling as long as I originate in a Fido zone for as long as I have my plan, if I sign up before September 30 2012?

Or does it mean, I have Canada wide calling as long as I originate in a Fido zone until September 30 2012?

I asked this question at 2 Fido stores in Vancouver. I just got some fast double talk, I don't think they knew what I was talking about.

Also, is a "zone" and "local calling area" the same thing?

I just looked at the plan - It seems you have unlimited local calls without zone restrictions. Long distance is extra.

Zone/ no zone has nothing to do with long distance. For those with City Fido or any other zoned plans, their plan criteria kick in "free of out of zone charges" when they are in their zone. When out of their respective zone - plan is still active but an additional .25 per minute charge of airtime is added.

In Sum - the $50 plan from Fido is unlimited local calling, not unlimited Canadian Long distance.
I'm not telling you anything that you can't just google for yourself
