Yeah, chances are, you probably just got a lemon. Wait until the replacement comes. Give it a little while, and if the same thing happens, then it probably has to do with a corrupt app that you installed or something.

Unfortunately, I have owned this phone for a month and I have already ran into a bit of a problem. I love the phone all around and I really want it to work.. However, after a week of owning the phone, I went to go unlock the screen and nothing happened. It stayed totally black. I had to pull the battery and upon turning the phone back on, I have a "Tell HTC" tab in my notification bar. It claimed that the device suffered from an "abnormal reset". I sent the information off and that was that. I'd say that was around 6/22. First question is this, has anyone else had this issue with their EVO? Will getting a new EVO V solve the problem or is it a software glitch that plagues all?
Continuing on, here I am, a month later and the phone did the same thing. Went to unlock it, black screen, nothing, needed to pull the battery. Same "tell HTC" tab, same error message; "abnormal reset". I decided to do a cleaning of all app cache and reset the phone once a day. Now here an hour ago, the phone randomly reset, got to the Virgin Mobile splash screen and froze. Now I am getting nervous.![]()
My month old phone is having these issues already after running flawlessly since the June 22nd issue. I called Virgin Mobile tech support, followed all the steps (actually I did them before hand, factory reset and all) and still, same issue. They offered to issue me a replacement, at wit's end, I accepted. Now I have a few questions.
Was this the best choice I could've made or is there something I can maybe do to rectify the issue myself? Will I be getting a new phone since this one is only a month and a few weeks old or some crappy refurb that will leave me pulling hair? Cause if that be the case, I will just get a new phone (another EVO since I won't get the iPhone, too pricey) to avoid such issues and sell this one or something since when it works, it works flawlessly. Final question, if this is a well known issue and it will happen on any other EVO V, should I just tough it out and wait for a software update (do VM phones get software updates to fix bugs) to fix it? I would gladly appreciate anyone's insight! Thanks fellow Virgin Mobilers!![]()

I realized I messed up after the fact. Sorry to you and the mods!
And alright, if it is just the fact that this one is a lemon and the next one will work flawlessly 99% of the time (whereas mine is 90-95% of the time), I can be happy and reassured! Anyone else's thoughts are welcomed. I'd like to hear what others think!![]()
If you got a phone thats acting up, and it's under warranty, send it back. Especially since it has been problematic since day one. The Evo might be the new Triumph, lulz..
Who knows if you will get a refurb or not (most-likely not), but as long as it looks new and it works, who cares.

My friend bought the EVO V 4G a while ago, even though I advised her to get the Optimus Elite (it was her first smartphone and the One V wasn't yet released).
She loved the 3D camera, but didn't really use it. The 4G was nice, but when she tried streaming music in the car, it would time out a lot. Then she started getting the "Radio Interfere Shortage" error every time she texted. Her phone would lose signal even though it was in a good reception area. Last, but not least people would call her, but her phone wouldn't ring.
At first I thought that the phone that she got was bad, but then I read on androidforums that many more people had this problem.
Soon after the HTC One V was released. I told her to return the EVO and buy the One V. If she didn't like the phone, I recommended buying a Google Nexus and porting her number to Straight Talk.
It's been a few weeks and she loves the One V. I did notice signal fluctuation, but she hasn't had any errors, dropped calls or missed texts. In other words no problems what so ever.
She actually thought that the VM network was bad, but it turned out that the EVO was at fault.
If it was me, I would put up with the EVO, because it's pretty powerful, but she's not a power user, so she loves the One V.

I understand all the other issues as I have seen others post about them and I myself have experienced them, however, no one has reported the "abnormal reset" issues in the way I have (that I can find) and that is what concerns me. I will stick with the EVO and hopefully the new one is sans my issue.
Yeah, I would certainly give a replacement phone a shot, since I believe I've only seen the issue that you're talking about mentioned once. Hell, one guy even got the phone with Android 2.3 and it wouldn't even work with VM.
If you're not getting all the radio errors or they don't bother you, then it's definitely a great device. My friend (when she returned the phone) would say that it looked like her dad's tape recorder from the 1980s, but to be honest, if I didn't switch to T-Mobile, then this would be a definite buy for me, radio problems or not.

Usually, I don't have too good of luck with the replacements. Unless they swap it out with a new model (not a refurb) you're most likely going to continue to run into problems.
Sounds like its just an app causing that.
For those of you who think it's an app to blame, is there any error log that I could find to see or any other way to pinpoint what app might be crashing the whole phone?
If it is any help, I will list off my apps.
Adobe Flash Player 11, Adobe photoshop Express, AP Mobile, App Cache Cleaner, AroundMe, barcode Scanner, ChaCha, Color FX - splash color, Dictionary.com, eBuddy XMS, ESPN ScoreCenter, Facebook for Android, Facebook Messenger, Gmail, Google Translator, iHeartRadio, Instagram, Maps, Pandora, Radio.com, Scrabble Free, Skype, Slacker Radio, SoundHound, Speedtest.net, Temple Run, TeslaLED Flashlight, The Verge, Tip N Split, Twitter, WeatherBug, Words with Friends and of course the apps that come with the phone... If one of those in there is known for freezing phones or comes across as a red flag, I'd love to know which one so I can get rid of it.
Use a task killer, and kill all apps periodically. Do you hold the home button then swipe away your open apps frequently?
