    Switch

    Hello everybody, new here.

    Here are my first questions:
I have AT&T postpaid and I want to switch to Verizon prepaid, can I keep my number ?
How do I proceed ? Who does the actual switch ?
Can I keep my phone ?

    Thanks,

    U.

Yes you can keep your number.
You do it all through Verizon. Once you have a Verizon phone, call in to activate and you have the option to port your old number.
You will need a new phone. The two networks use different radio technology (AT&T is GSM, Verizon is CDMA) so there is a hardware incompatiblity.

You might want to consider Page Plus, rather than Verizon prepaid. It has the exact same coverage at a much lower price. You can read about Page Plus here on the forum and you can go to http://pagepluscellular.com

Keep in mind the roaming rate for Verizon prepaid and Page plus is different however. Also Verizon has free mobile to mobile on some plans if you have many contacts with Verizon already.

You will need a CDMA phone for Page Plus or Verizon, with a clear ESN. Can find some on ebay or craigslist, just need to verify ESN when you purchase one. Is there a reason you want to go to Verizon Prepaid?

That is all true, so one must do the math, but I don't think that it will be very often where Verizon prepaid would come out ahead of Page Plus. Page Plus is difficult for anyone to beat.

Good point. For me Airvoice beats them all with their $10 for 250 min or 500 texts, with stackable cards, or unlimited talk/text for $35. Also the ability to use any GSM phone is a huge deal for me, as i like to change phones often. Co-workers are convinced I have a phone for each day of the week. (not true as I sell/give away most of the ones I buy).

Biggest question is who is the best carrier in your area, and find a pre-paid from that information.

I totally agree with all the above....EXCEPT.....Page Plus does not have those dx#! pop-up account balance notifications and Airvoice does have them. Hello Airvoice...can we get rid of those .....please !! I would upgrade my account

    Thank you all for replying.
I was with AT&T and very happy with them, but all of a sudden we lost service at our house, we live in a very rural place.
Verizon has full service here, but next year AT&T will have a tower in our town.
I froze my account with them and plan to go back as soon as the tower is built.
I find Verizon very difficult to deal with.

I agree. As time goes on vz seems harder and harder to deal with.

Don't forget, you can get Verizon coverage with Page Plus, and you will not ever have to deal with Verizon customer service.
