I am not a dealer and I purchased 2 Droid x2 phones which I checked with the free MEID check and they both failed. I used the Verizon link to see if they were eligible and they were. I paid a eBay seller $1 to activate each phone. Hola! Two activated phones. I really did not want to flash to Cricket as I live in a triband area and the phones are not triband.

The link you posted does NOT always show accurate info. It mainly shows devices that are in the Verizon database, but not if they are active, or not.
For instance, this iPhone 4S shows it is "eligible" for activation on the Verizon Wireless Network, but in fact it is currently active or tied to a Verizon account and can't be activated on another account.

The "Device Eligibility" page isn't a reliable source to check if ESNs are clean or not. Try check esn free dot com.
I never thought I'd have to polish up my colloquialisms for a cell phone forum!
Mmmmm....pudding....
I recently tested the "don't mention a PP Dealer by name" rule here on PP Hofo......trust me, it is still in effect - got me a 7 day ban.
Now are we talking banana pudding, vanilla, or banana creme pudding?
Mmmmm.....English language!
THE DEAL. Blackberries work but the proxy settings need changed. BBM will never wok as the service does not go through RIM. Reps will sometimes say no because they need to be manually programmed.
A bad ( stolen) ESN will NOT process in ppc systems. Verizon blocks activation.
I-phones can work although reps will not knowingly activate as Verizon is currently telling them not to.
4G phones can work at 3G speads but will need to be flashed by a dealer.
Keep in mind that all PPC reps are not knowledgable and their training has very little to do with cell phones.
Almost any phone that might need manual programming may bring a response of "we do not support that device and have no information on programming. Is there anything else I can do for you today?
Either fully flashing or changing the proxy settings will allow most CDMA phones to function properly.
Lots of dealers online eager to help with these issues.

I feel obligated to provide an update on that, a dealer that had activated one dubious piece of equipment previously, rejected a different handset I got off of ebay (disclosed as blacklisted.)
My order was rejected less a processing fee, same dealer, so don't bank on getting a bargain and bringing it to PP.
You can bring blacklisted Sprint equipment on with no issues, but you will have to manually program in the AAA/HA/Mobile IP information. I was considerably less informed on this topic the last time I posted about it -- having been mostly a GSM junkie for all these years.
