    3gs please help

Trying to fix my phone again. Its a 3gs and it will not do anything. Was previously jailbroke/unlocked just fine. I know its on 6.15.00 but it gets an error when I try to get 5.1.1. Error 3194 if I shift/restore and pick which firmware to use and error -1 if I just use itunes. I do not know where to start. Anyone please help and put me in the right direction. I was able to get 5.1.1 the other day and it had no wifi so I redid it, which put me where I am now. It just goes to apple logo.

    Thanks

You either need to use Redsn0w 0.9.12b2 or Sn0wbreeze 2.9.6 to create a custom NO_BB 5.1.1 IPSW to restore with after putting the phone in pwnDFU or use Redsn0w 0.9.14b2 to downgrade the iPad BB to 05.13.04 to regain GPS, then you have the option of just installing stock 5.1.1 which will update the baseband to the latest which cannot be unlocked, or create a custom NO_BB 5.1.1 IPSW to update while preserving an unlockable baseband with GPS functionality. If you choose to not downgrade the baseband and update with a custom NO_BB ipsw, you will be stuck without GPS. If you choose to downgrade but do not use a custom NO_BB ipsw, you will be back to stock without any future errors like you've got and you will have the freedom to flash the iPad baseband again then downgrade the baseband to 05.13.04 to regain GPS and unlock at anytime you like. Just remember that anytime you have the iPad baseband, you must either downgrade the baseband to install a stock ipsw or use a custom NO_BB ipsw to update/restore. I would just downgrade the baseband to get GPS back, then update to 5.1.1 using a custom NO_BB ipsw to preserve the unlockable baseband.

Is there some video I can follow to do this correctly? I still need it unlocked. I dont understand how to get a custom IPSW. Id like to have the GPS options. Anything else I managed to do, either is searching for signal or turning off and on.

    Thank you for the suggestions.

What are you restoring to if you have to use shift restore? After you downgrade the baseband, just restore to stock(let iTunes download the ipsw, don't use shift + restore) should fix your problems. Need to make sure it isn't a hardware problem before trying to jailbreak and unlock again, so if restoring to stock works, then it is probably safe to attempt it again. Just do not try to use whatever ipsw you have been using, report back on progress.

Many tutorials on Youtube are out of date/lacking important details in most cases, so I do not suggest anyone use them. There are so many terrible quality videos too, makes me wanna vomit. Forums are not for the lazy, but they do usually contain up to date and important details of the information one would need for a subject.

What do you need the phone jailbroken or unlocked for? Might just stick to stock firmware, so you don't have these problems again.

I am not sure its even allowing a downgrade. When redsn0w is open it says 3gs 5.1.1 on 6.15.00 but when I tried that tiny umbrella it says 4.3.5 on 6.15.00. On the phone it says 5.1.1 but the modern firmware is blank. If I try the regular itunes I get an error saying unable to restore. Its at AT&T phone and they would not allow me a contract so it has been unlocked and used with tmobile for since 2010. At this point Id just like it to be able to be an ipod for my kids, but would be nice if they could use it as a phone also since I do have tmobile for another year.

iTunes may not be working properly, your host file could be pointing iTunes at Cydia for SHSH blobs after using Tiny Umbrella. You need to open Tiny Umbrella and click advanced, then make sure to uncheck "Set Hosts file to Cydia on Exit" if it isn't already and then close Tiny Umbrella. Next try downgrade baseband again, then install stock 5.1.1(not shift + restore). If it doesn't work, you will probably need to flash iPad baseband again, downgrade the baseband, then finally install stock 5.1.1 ipsw. Do you have an ATT sim to activate with or will it need jailbreak to hacktivate?

First try using Redsn0w 0.9.12b2 to jailbreak and flash the iPad baseband again. Open Redsn0w with Admin privileges, then choose Extras>Select IPSW and choose IOS 5.1.1 IPSW, then hit back, choose Jailbreak, put phone into pwnDFU, then select install Cydia and install iPad baseband. Make sure everything works, then open Redsn0w 0.9.14b2 with Admin privileges, then choose Jailbreak, put phone into pwnDFU, then downgrade the iPad baseband. Lastly, restore to stock in iTunes. If it doesn't jailbreak or flash the iPad baseband again, and before you try the next option, open Redsn0w and choose Extras>Custom IPSW and select IOS 5.1.1 ipsw to create a custom NO_BB ipsw. Install the custom NO_BB ipsw, then start from the top to jailbreak and flash the iPad baseband, downgrade baseband, then install stock. If it doesn't work try the next option below.

Next try method 1 listed HERE. You can skip step 6 and just update to stock 5.1.1

You could also use Sn0wbreeze 2.9.6 to create a custom NO_BB ipsw(baseband preservation mode), or a custom iPad flash and jailbreak ipsw to try using with iTunes. Anytime you use a custom ipsw, you must put the phone into pwnDFU mode and use the shift + restore in iTunes.

As of now I was able to somehow get on 5.1.1 and firmware 6.15.00. wifi is on and its normal. Its not turning on and off all crazy. I did the jailbreak just fine with redsn0w 0.9.14b2 but it doesnt let me the ultrasnow to unlock it. Is there another unlock for these versions? Im scared to do anything that gets me lost again. I wont mess with it until you read this update. Not sure if I should still downgrade.

    Thank you.

You either need to flash the iPad baseband, then downgrade the baseband and install a NO_BB ipsw for unlock or flash the iPad baseband, then downgrade the baseband, and install stock(won't allow unlock, but should be stable). Each time you update to a new IOS version the iPad baseband needs to be flashed again(if you don't downgrade from iPad BB you must reflash it for each update), but don't flash it again once you have downgraded the baseband(you can only downgrade from iPad BB, so if you have the latest baseband, you must flash iPad BB, and then downgrade), just use custom NO_BB ipsw's you create to preserve the 05.13.04 baseband(unlockable with GPS and can be updated to stock without problems other than losing unlock ability from the baseband getting updated) it downgrades to. The Ultrasn0w latest is 1.2.7, don't use anything else(no fixer crap). What steps did you take? Did you follow my steps I outlined, or did you stray off in a tangent? Please do not use any old ipsw you used in the past to jailbreak or install iPad baseband with. If you follow what I have shown and it still doesn't work, it is probably a hardware problem. If you choose to continue unlocking with software and do not downgrade from iPad baseband, you'll probably have this problem again for IOS 6, since each time you update the IOS with a baseband unlock, you must only use a custom NO_BB ipsw to preserve the unlockable baseband. It wouldn't have been a problem if the iPad baseband was downgraded prior to a stock update. I think you tried to install stock over the iPad baseband which resulted in such problems. It's important to get the phone stable first, unlocking it should be your last priority atm. Once it is stable, you do have the option to bypass the complexity of the baseband unlock and just get ATT to give you a carrier unlock or pay for a IMEI unlock service(I consider these as rogue and untrusted, but can be a last resort for some).

I believe this is what I did before: http://www.beijingiphonerepair.com/t...erve-baseband/

definately did the BB ispw. How do you get AT&T to unlock it? I am not a customer of theirs.

There is a problem with Redsn0w 0.9.12b2 apparently, it will not let you flash the iPad BB if you're already jailbroken. So, you may need to actually try using Sn0wbreeze to create a custom baseband preservation ipsw(or use Redsn0w 0.9.12b2 to create the NO_BB ipsw) to get to stock 5.1.1 instead of a jailbreak and then try using Redsn0w and I know I said install both Cydia and iPad BB in a previous post, only install iPad BB(the picture is only to show that "install iPad baseband" is listed and where it needs to be checked, but be sure to uncheck install Cydia for the iPad BB flash) or use Sn0wbreeze to create a custom jailbreak ipsw with iPad baseband flash. If you must unlock with software, only use the NO_BB ipsw you created with Redsn0w 0.9.12b2 and restore using it before and after you downgrade the iPad baseband instead of only restoring to stock. Lastly jailbreak using Redsn0w 0.9.12b2, this time you don't need to open Extras and select the stock 5.1.1 ipsw, just click jailbreak and choose install Cydia. Since you are hacktivating(jailbreak without ATT sim activation), you will be missing push certs and such, so it might be a good idea to use SAM to activate with, but this leads to even more complexity. This is another reason I suggest you find other means of unlocking the phone, since a carrier unlocked phone will activate with any sim. The next complexity is getting MMS and such working for Tmobile...even a carrier unlocked phone is a bit of a struggle with such.

Just did all of this and it has no wifi. It never came back on from last night. Just saw you posted back so have to read that now.
