    Unlocked Rogers 8520

I have a Rogers unlocked Blackberry 8520, I tried putting a Fido sim inside -- all it says is SOS, when I do a manual scan the scan picks up Fido but still says SOS! What's wrong?

does the sim card have active service

if you don't have another active sim card you can borrow a friend's sim or visit a fido store.

It's a brand new SIM card, haven't activated it yet. It's weird because my 9780 gets service for any un-activated sim Bell/Telus/Rogers/Fido/Whatever. This one wont... I think it's because it's 2g and only has EDGE, but Fido and Rogers still have an Edge network right? It was working fine with Rogers last week.

Thats the reason why. you need an active sim card to show network activity.

don;t worrry about the other sim cards or phones why they pick up signal or not, thats irrelivant

Very simple to solve, simply go to a store or call the 1-888 number and get the sim card activated. not sure what your trying to acomplish by using a phone with an unactivated sim card? its like having a paper weight

Got the SIM activated, but it's still saying SOS -- do I need to add money to it in order for it to get service and by service I mean simply connect to the network.

Nevermind, needed to reset the phone. Does Fido EDGE come in as roaming? It has the triangle by Fido, weird.

ALL fido phones show as roaming when using a non-fido phone or a phone with non-fido software (yes rogers phones fall under this category)
