Considering switching to cricket from virgin mobile, good option or not?

I currently have to HTC evo v 4g on a beyond talk plan. I was on crickets site and seen the ZTE chorus, a cheap basic android phone. Apparently I can use that phone on the $25 plan, I am looking to save money. I can root and add the marketplace on the chorus so it will be more useable and I know it has a much slower processor and smaller screen and resistive touch instead of capacitive. My main concern isn't the phone, it is the partner coverage. According to their maps they have partner coverage where I need it and virgin doesn't. Any opinions on the switch? Good idea or not? All input is greatly appreciated as cricket is new to my area so I am not too familiar with their customer service, etc.

stick with virgin, crickets policy for throttling of data is so bad you cant use the internet at all hardly without them slowing you down to a stupid slow speed, I recommend StraightTalk gsm with an AT&T MVNO sim as at least you get a decent provider backing the services you use.

I switched from Cricket to ST and I have nothing but good things to same about the service quality I have over Cricket. BTW I had continuous cricket service since 2002 previously. That was 10 years with the horse blinders on not realizing how much better other service providers are.

My recommendation. Look at other options. This company is a sinking ship, 6 years ago they offered an unbeatable service for the money but now the large carriers options blow them away. This is all due to internal greed and mismanagement of a once great company.

Cricket's data speeds are ridiculously slow. I've had Virgin Mobile in the past and had switched over to Cricket to save some cash, but I regret that decision. Stick to Virgin!

Yes you should switch plans prices are right Unlimited Talk and text and Unlimited Data with a 2.5GB data cap for smartphones for only $55. Don't listen to the HATERS of cricket. Who most likely work for the other cell phone companies. They also have the iPhone in some markets

^^The only reason this guy likes them is because he works for cricket and the employee plans have no data caps. I used to be a CSR for Cricket and I can tell you there are far better options with way better speeds and network quality. Heck my throttled 3g speeds on my POS Samsung Captivate on straight talk are faster than any speed I ever got from Crickets network. So yes they suck, on top of that your dealing with a company that's a sinking ship. Don't be surprised one day you wake up and all cricket phones don't work because the company closed up shop in the middle of the night.

BTW, The last time I heard unlimited wasnt 2.5gb. and Crickets talking about 2.5 gigabits. that equals 320mb of data.

Yes Dexter35803 Cricket is getting better everyday and im not a worker for cricket im 15 so how in the world im going to work for cricket. Cricket has great phones coming in the next few months and also they are getting 4G LTE very soon.

Ive never been on Cricket (mainly because Cricket doesn't support my market) but if it is anything like MetroPCS, then they are both getting better day by day and their BYOD program (if they are still allowing it) is the best. Helps when you want to get a bad ESN phone and use it on another network without having to go through changing the MEID/ESN.

Virgin is of course better but Sprint's 3G speeds are almost the same as my regional carrier, a bit more consistent but nothing near Verizon's solid 3G network. Of course, it will almost always depend on your market and area coverage of your respective carrier.

Basically if you plan on buying bad ESN phones in the foreseeable future (since they are found VERY cheap on eBay and craigslist, bad ESN iPhone 4 ringing in at $150-$200) then stay with Cricket for now since they (as I've heard) are still allowing some dealers to add ESNs to their database so flashed phones can be used.

Otherwise Virgin Mobile is not a bad idea either. If it is anything like it is down here in Orlando (where all four major and regional carriers (No Cricket here, just MetroPCS) have pretty good coverage) MetroPCS and Sprint have almost similar speeds from what I've seen, contrary to popular belief with both my iPhones ringing in at 500kbps-1.5Mbps, with my Sprint iPhone being just a bit more consistent (obviously because of a much larger footprint and 3G backhaul).

The only downside I see in getting Virgin Mobile is that you will still have to purchase a Virgin Mobile-specific phone, unlike Cricket where you can buy any compatible CDMA phone and just flash it for cheap.

I'm really surprised its lasted this long to be honest. They are putting out fake numbers for the most part on their earnings reports. Trust me, I have first hand knowledge of the fraud.

They just sold off all company owned cell sites just to have enough operating capital to stay aflot with some being complete closures. They are also in the process of going all indirect and will be closing all the corp stores in time, its in their business plan for the next few years so expect more and more cuts to services as the company grows more and more top heavy.
