    Nexus S not receiving update

    Hey all!

Just got a Nexus S refurb last week and it's stuck on 4.0.4 and I can't force the Jelly Bean update. I could root it but I want to make sure everything is OK hardware wise. Anyone having trouble getting the update?

I tried clearing the Google Framework data and force closing it. Didn't help.

    Any ideas?

I tried OTA and no love

I tried manual using the following files

    P2lZDQWb.zip *
    cSw0yuoF.zip
    9ZGgDXDi.zip

They all fail in the system validation

    * according to this page http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1736645
the top file is the right file for upgrading the I9020A from IMM76D (4.04) to JRO03E (4.1.1)

    Error I get comes after

    Verifying current system ...

    assert failed: apply_patch_space(16570800)
    E:Error in /tmp/sideLoad/package.zip
    status 7
    Installation aborted

I just noticed that the file came from
    http://android.clients.google.com/pa...a/P2lZDQWb.zip

notice that it is google_crespoa - but my phone is a HERRING

Does anyone know where to get the file for the herring versions?

Is it unlocked? You can't do it with the stock recovery.

I unlocked my Nexus S yesterday using m.sabra's One Click Root Kit. It automatically unlocks the bootloader, installs CWM and SU/SuperSU. You can find it here.

I haven't flashed the update yet, but I'm going to try it soon.

Off topic question: I'm not with Telus (Koodo, FWIW), is there a way for me to find out about these refurbs, or are they just offered directly to Telus customers?

    Thnx

They were on the website but they sold out very quickly.

Sigh - always too little too late.

At any rate, thanks for the info.
