Just got a Nexus S refurb last week and it's stuck on 4.0.4 and I can't force the Jelly Bean update. I could root it but I want to make sure everything is OK hardware wise. Anyone having trouble getting the update?
I tried clearing the Google Framework data and force closing it. Didn't help.
Any ideas?

Is it unlocked? You can't do it with the stock recovery.
I unlocked my Nexus S yesterday using m.sabra's One Click Root Kit. It automatically unlocks the bootloader, installs CWM and SU/SuperSU. You can find it here.
I haven't flashed the update yet, but I'm going to try it soon.
Off topic question: I'm not with Telus (Koodo, FWIW), is there a way for me to find out about these refurbs, or are they just offered directly to Telus customers?

They were on the website but they sold out very quickly.
