That's assault with a deadly weapon on a law enforcement officer. He was told to stop, refused, then ran over his foot. He wouldn't stop so he was removed from the car. I'm not seeing a problem here. Purposely hitting a cop with your car is a sure fire way to go to jail. If he would have just got his ticket for illegal parking he would have been on his way. I'd he would have stopped the first time he told him he would have been on his way. When he refused to stop after that he forced the cops hand. No, that was not excessive force. If I was that cop I'd love to have a copy of that vid for court. Instant conviction and instant clearance of any complaint.

There is a problem here with the video. I don't think he ran over the cops foot. The cop acted like he did, but the car stopped, and you can see him pull his foot back. If the car had stopped on his foot, there is no way that he could pull it back, with the weight of the tire and the car on it. He also never acted like his foot got ran over, until after, when he was shown limping. I had my foot ran over by a car, at slow speeds, like this, and trust me, you react to it.

Now, I am not saying what the driver did was right, but the cop completely instigated the situation, by doing what he did.

He might have been on the tip of his foot or something. I think the little rich prick got what he had coming to him. The rules do apply to you too bud!

Regardless if he completely ran over his foot or not is irrelevent. When he struck his shin and kept going it was assault. Even if he didn't strike the Officer by not obeying a lawful order to stop and attempting to flee the scene easily justifies what occurred. When given a lawful order you obey it, if you don't you will be arrested.

Most places I know of, the cop's behavior would be considered unprofessional, at best. Of course, the driver's behavior is idiotic or drugged. The cop was actively writing a ticket. He should have waited until the cop was done, taken the citation and driven off. He's probably used to doing whatever he wants and getting away with it.

Why would the cop continue to position his foot under the tire, what an idiot. Secondly it doesn't look like he even ran over his foot as he just crept the car half an inch and he pulled his foot away. Later he is exaggerating the limp when other officers are there.

This cop didn't need to smack his $300,000 car and then bash his door into another taxi. Quite unprofessional, and the cop is just angry and upset because he is a hater and is jealous of this kid who has more money then the cop will make in his lifetime. Either way, the rich kid should have just taken the ticket and gone. If the cop was smart, he would have asked him not to step into the vehicle until he was done writing whatever ticket. No matter what the kid did, the Cop is acting very unprofessional here.

I think the cop purposely tried to get in the way of the guy leaving so that he could get the ticket issued. It might not (?) be valid if the guy takes off before he's done writing it. I have no issue with the cops behavior here. It's clear this guy thinks he's above the law, and the cop made an example of him.

It's tough to see on my phone, but it didn't look like the door actually hit the cab (?).

He definitely drills the taxi door. Later in the video you can even see on the car there is markings and damage to the paint on the vehicle. I'm sure painting a Ferrari would not be a very cheap endeavour.

According to TMZ (reliable, I know) the cop did tell him to stand outside the car while he wrote the ticket (you can see the cop saying something to him). Then he got in front of the car, and then told him to stop. I don't know how much more direct he could have been.

Unfortunate situation for both parties, because at the end of the day, they both look like idiots! Completely avoidable situation.

Police is given more power so they can enforce the law. According to some of you, then the driver could simply disobey the lawful order, drives off and avoid a ticket because the cop would not be able to write down everything (licence plate), ONLY BECAUSE some say the cop was wrong in using his body to block the vehicle. He tried to put his body against the vehicle closely because the driver had the intent of driving away (and it was very obviously soon after). What part in that was hard to understand?

I guess people like to blame the cops all the time, may be it's like Americans "blame Canada"? Aeh?

Chabbott will have to perform five days of community service and pay a small fine. In the trial, Chabbott claimed that the Ferrari was parked in a valet zone by the hotel's own valet and therefore the entire incident was not his fault. He still faces civil charges from the officer.
