LOst rights to use iphone 4s becuse of jailbreak?

OK I had the iphone 4s for about a month, after a few weeks I decided to JB it, I was under the impression that was perfectly fine to do? PLz correct me if I am wrong. Well after about a week and a half my iphone just up and stopped working, just said no service, I restarted it, same thing, I turned on airplane mode and back off a few times, same thing, So I then decided to restore it thinking maybe the JB screwed something up (even though it had been working for over a week fine )

AFter the restore same thing, no service, I then contacted VM via twitter, I gave the lady my info and she said that she was sorry but my acount had been cut off due to violating the TOS and that I needed to call CS. I called and got a really nice guy who looked in to it and said my service had been cut because of using a tethering app/hotspot app. I never downloaded any apps at that point through cydia other then sb settings. One of the reasons I went with the 4s was the fact that for a small $15 more a month I could tether with o issues. I explained that I did not tethering using the phone and he said that the system said I did and that He could not reactivate my iphone and asked if I had another phone to use, which I had my elite still.

HE got the elite working and I still had no data, he said that would start working again within a few hours, but that I coud no longer use my iphone 4s or any other iphone with my acount because I was flagged. I went through 2 managers before they would not transfer me any longer, they both said the same thing. WAs not sure if anyone was having an issue like this? I had JB a few iphnes and ipads and never had any issues with the few apps I use, but something screwed with my phone, I am more upset with the fact that they would not work with me seeing as I had never tethered on any of my phones with VM, that is why I pay for a flippin MiFi each month through them, which was going to be replaced with the hotspot feature next month because it was cheaper.

Just figured I would share what happened and maybe someone on here would have a thought?

    Thanks..

I guess this is one of those rare situations where jailbreaking has its downside.

To me, it sounds like if you jailbreak your iphone on VM, they can find out and flag you.

On one side, if VM's TOS says you can't jailbreak, well there's nothing you can do about it..

But on the other hand, I'm pretty sure a law was passed where it's perfectly legal to jailbreak an iphone on any carrier, but it just voids the manufacturer warrantee.

You should definitely research it more, because to me, regardless of any TOS, it seems to me that something fishy went on an you got screwed out of $600+ for doing something completely legal.

Companies have the right to make rules and refuse service to anyone who doesn't follow those rules.

There was a long thread here when the new TOS went into effect, with plenty of heated debate about whether VM would go after customers who do things prohibited in the TOS, like tether, root and jailbreak. I guess NHCharmedOne has given us part of that answer now.

I did not lose my money though, that was the only good thing that came from this, I bought my phone at bestbuy and they refunded me the full price even after telling them what happened. If jailbreaking is against TOS then I take full blame for this and that is fine, but if it is just a way of making an example then that is wrong seeing as the only thing I did was JB my phone!

Did the rep that claimed you used tethering know about your SB settings app?

Maybe he couldn't reactivate the phone on your current plan (w/o Tethering add-on)?

Might want to call CS again and request tech support to see if renewing your plan with tethering add-on will allow the iPhone to be activated again.

Wow, they seem to be cracking down on lot's of things now, maybe they've had too many software "root" related returns on the android side. Is the law not on the consumer side regarding this?

Operating without a contract makes you far more valuable.

I did tell him that I jailbreak my phone and the app that I installed, the funny thing is I asked if they could prove to me that I tethered, knowing full well that I did not, and all 3 people I talked to said the system showed I did and that was proof.. I have used sb settings from like a year on my ipad 1 then again on my ipad3, it was a handy app. I did not think sb settings had anything to do with tethering of any kind, unless I am wrong? I gues if I want to ditch MiFi Ill have to pick up an evo..

I am going to call back and see if I can get a manager, I havig nothing to lose iphone has already been returned.

I would have closed my account, and opened a new one with the phone. But glad you got your money back!

I was wondering if there was a way to enable tether without paying, turns out there is. One of the methods utilizes SB Settings app to toggle and enable/disable tethering. Maybe Sprint/VM knows this too and the SB Settings app sets off a red flag for them to assume that you are tethering when in reality you are not. Much like the wifi hot spot on the Optimus V that was killed with a software update. It's too harsh of them to ban your iPhone, maybe they just suspended the account.

Probably shouldn't have told them you were jailbroken, though.

So now, the question is, has anybody else on here jailbroke their VM iPhone? And if so, is your account still active?

So iPhone for VM is not worldwide phone, and you loose your service if you jailbreak it.
And they charge $600 for it..
    Thanks, but no thanks.

Another question, if they are cracking down on unpaid tethering are they watching iPhones and androids. We will find out.

He didn't lose his service due to Jail breaking, they claimed has lost his service for tethering, without paying the tether plan.

Ok I got a phone call from a Jacob about an hour ago, he said that he was calling because of what happened, he said though they frown on jailbreaking that is not what flagged me and it was likely something I installed, seeing as all I installed was sbsettings. Though on a good note I was told if I wanted to reactivate my iPhone I could, he cleared my account of the flag, but seeing as I already returned it Think I will stick with my elite til I go after the evo.

I hope no one else has to go through this, it really was not fun, but I do appreciate everyone's input.
