I used a local guy I found on CraigsList and it worked fine. Took a few days and I must say, I did have my doubts, but it was only $30 so I wasn't sweating it too much. Besides, I used VISA with paypal and figured I could always contest the payment if services were not provided as promised. I had my wife's phone done next, and he'd raised his price to $40 by then, but it still went through and I have tested both with T-Mobile and a few foreign sim cards from Europe & Mexico.
I never got the iTunes message, or maybe I missed it onscreen, but an IMEI website that reports status also says they're both unlocked.
Hi, If you get the result on status of your phones from IMEI site, then it may be right. what was the result when you checked with Europe and mexico SIM cards?

The "No Sim Installed" bubble would drop out, then I got the carrier name in the status bar, and in the Network name. Additionally, my T-Mobile sim would register and immediately go to their chime tone and Voicemail system with the Welcome message. Apparently one MVNO in the UK roams on T-Mobile, because I just put a "GiffGaff" sim in, and got connected with the T-M system. Here's a screenshot.
I don't know if you've found a service you like, but I unlocked my AT&T iphone 4s via eBay. I used unlock_ fusion's service on ebay http://stores.ebay.com/unlockfusion. It looks like they are selling for about $20 for an iphone. I had good service, I ordered and paid in the evening, and I got the message that my phone was unlocked the next morning. I just had to connect to iTunes and backup and restore my phone, and then I got the "congratulations, your iPhone is unlocked" statement.

Thanks for the tip, It look legit from the ad on ebay.
I'll give them a try since they are having a sale.
So just email them the IEMI number and wait for a message.
Do they send you a message on Ebay?
Did you use their service recently?

Yes, they sent me a message on ebay to check my email. I think it was an auto message as it came quite quickly. The email directed me to a page on their site to provide them with the IMEI number of my phone. Their unlocking process is fully automated. However, they replied within 1/2 hour when I had a question, so good service.
Yep, I used their service August 2, 2012. The cost was higher at that time, I paid $39.99. It was still worth it to me even at that price.
ok so i did my research and decided to do it. It's on sale for under $20 for the next 10 hours. Wish me luck. I will post my results here of this Unlockfusion service on ebay after I get my Iphone unlocked.
Thanks, got my Iphone unlocked with unlockfusion. I took out my gevey sim and put in my tmobile sim. I was ready to plug it into itunes, but i got the activation required message and used my wifi to activate and got the tmobile symbol up. i put in the mms settings and texting works.
Hell, I don't blame you. Some of these 3rd party sites online do seem REALLY sketchy. I did however want to share my experience. I unlocked two AT&T iPhones (both iPhone 4) with a 3rd party unlocker with no problems. I've unlocked Blackberries with them in the past for like $2, and they were always timely and reliable, so I wasn't nervous about spending some extra money at all. The iPhones took a bit longer, about an hour each. And it wasn't like the other phones where I had to enter an unlock code. I had to connect my iPhone to iTunes once I was done, and got a "Congrats your phone is now unlocked" message on the screen. But now I'm using the phones happily on Straight Talk.
They're the cheapest site I know of. They charge like $45 to unlock an iPhone (and much cheaper for other models), in comparison to some other places that charge like $100. Hope this helps. Good luck!

making phone calls and use internet works too.
thanks again
I'm going to try this for my wife's iPhone since it's so cheap. Thanks.
