fido to rogers port, waiving the ECF

    Hello..

I called in fido to ask about to fido->rogers port and ECF waive fee
    but they said
I have to be at least a year in on a contract.. is this true?

i have been with fido for over 7 years
but i signed contract not long ago and the guy said i need to be at least a year in, on the current contract.

    can someone verify..?

as far as i know, it could be done if
    1. you are fido customer for over 1 year (which i am)
    2. you haven't received port credit before (which i have not done before)
    3. you sign up 2-3 yr contract with rogers and
received ECF credit if you remain as rogers customer for 30 days (or more)
    4. name of the account holder has to be the same for both fido & rogers

am I misinformed by this customer service representative or was I wrong?

    Thank you

Moving from Fido to Rogers is lot like moving from the DR Congo to Somalia.

Hopefully somebody can give you better advice.

Yes. 1 year with fido, not 1 year into current contract. I have done it a year ago

But do they still allow to do it? what if u port to rogers for 3years agreement without taking a phone? 12.50 to cancel?

Keep in mind the only way to get this done is to have it offered and taken care of by retention. If done in store, you will be charged your ECF.

Correct, no "sales rep" is allowed to offer this.

so how would i convince retention rep to allow me to do this?
i have an iphone 4s which i got from fido but I never even opened it.

All the sudden, I have to go to states now and live there for longer than 5 years (school related, sudden acceptance) and I wanna get rid of fido contract but it costs me 490+tax and if i can port to rogers, then sign 3 year contract
it would cost me only w.e the ECF cost for rogers (whether it is 500 or w.e) but I can pay for this by selling the phone that I get from fido/rogers... so how would I convince the retention rep to allow me to do this ?

thanks... really appreciating ur help guys

This seems like the best approach. Take whatever length of contract the offer but no phone and walk away for $12.50..assuming they haven't closed this by requiring a phone.
Unlocked Pentaband iPhone 5 (AWS), unlocked iPhone 4
Unlimited airtime, Unlimited CAN/US long distance, Unlimited SMS to CAN/US wireless numbers
2500 Call Forwarding minutes to CAN/US numbers
    CiD, 6GB
Google Voice for visual voice mail with message transcription, conditional greetings, unlimited messages (vs 35 message cap), remote retrieval from any PC or phone, no auto-purge after 10 days and most importantly no $7-$8 charge.
    $53

Perhaps a condition of this offer IS the client must take a phone.

That's the part I am not sure of. We haven't had a WIRC update on whether the policy has been updated to require this in the face of the new cancelation policy.

Why not just cancel and sell your iPhone to cover the costs? Why overcomplicate things?

I don't recall Fido have any plans that are 36 month only at the moment. Even if you request it, reps will not put you on a 36 month term when a MTM version of the plan is available when you are not taking a subsidy.

Fido does have 36 month plans, the new "MAX" plans are 36 month only. You will have to get a subsidized phone I believe, OP

edit: max plans are available MTM
