What was once only in the realm of network operators is now a feature for custom ROM Android developers. OTA Update Center allows programmers to sent over the air updates to Android device owners that use their software builds. For users, and devs, this is fantastic.
This is new? I thought ROM Manager and certain ROMs could already do this, although I'm too new to custom ROMs to have seen it happen yet. I use CyanogenMod 7.2, and in the settings there's an option to be notified of ROM updates.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding something.
Yes, you are, a simple notification just tells you that there is one. OTA updates are like what you now have on your Android Phone, where you just tap the update and it happens. It's actually a brilliant idea, it will make custom ROMs more prevalent.
That sounds like ROM Manager. ROM Manager can notify the user of updates and also install them. I guess the benefit here is having that functionality baked into the ROMs themselves?
I'm too new to Android and custom ROMs to have ever seen an OS update happen. My phone can't do OTA updates when used on my carrier (Page Plus, Verizon MVNO) so it's hard for me to know what this means.
