Question Feedback request: Spotty data moving from NY to Houston

    Hi,

Thanks for your feedback and opinion on this issue.

I live in upstate NY. I've been a ST customer for the past 6 months. I've a BYOD iPhone 4s.
I'm very happy and I even got the MMS working with the sim swap. Great, love it.

I'm moving to Houston for a job. I've been there twice visiting (several months apart) and a strange thing happens.
I have full bar, voice and sms works but data is very spotty.
What I mean is that it either works great or I get the no cellular data connection error.

If you turn the phone off and back on the data start working again for a 20-25 minutes, after that it gets stuck and I have to turn the phone off and back on. Sometime an airplane mode switch (on/off) works, sometimes it does not and I've to turn the cellphone off.
The issue is not related to the coverage I might have at the moment. I can have 5 bars or 1 bar, the issue always occur. I've covered an area of 15-20 miles driving around town and the issue is still there (I woudl exclude a specific tower issue).

In Rochester NY the phone works great no problems at all.

What can I do to fix it?
    Thanks
    A-

so you know the hardware is operating correctly because when you were at home no worries. you used more than one tower so its not a tower issue ...unless it was the area. Houston is no small city. att has trouble in larger markets. i looked up the zip 70001 and got this return url at ST GSM4SPRCO. so all good there.

i would say it was congestion in a big city.

if you wanted to put your tin foil hat on for a minute you could think that att is congested and you are from another area so they treat you like an intruder from another zip and keep data from you.

you could test that but it would cost money.

If it had just happened this week, I would posit that the widespread data problems that have been chronicled in several threads were the culprit, but if it has happened on two separate trips, I am at a loss to know what is going on,

I live in the northeast part of Houston and use a Motorola Atrix 4G phone. I don't think I have any problems with the ATT network. I drive around from there to South Houston. Which areas of Houston have you tried?

Do you think ordering a new sim (once I'll move definitely to Houston) could help?

At this point I am availing the "intruder" theory.

I could try to switch to tmobile if Houston is one of the cities where they offer 4g iPhone compatible.
    Any info about that?

    Thanks
