how best to renew

My BYOD first month is nearing an end. Yes, they are already dunning me 2 weeks ahead!

Is it 30 days or a month?
If I choose "Buy a service plan", even though I choose add to reserve, it doesn't - my new end day on 8-10 is 9-9. So that's no good.
I am guessing that happens as well if you buy an epin from wallmart and add it today.
So do I have to wait until the last day and then add a card and thereby lose a day?
Or sign up for auto-pay and risk that, which I won't.

Service plans last thirty days. According to Straight Talk's Terms and Conditions all unlimited service plans are added to your Reserve to be applied on your Service End Date. The All You Need Service Plan prompt you to whether you want them added immediately or added to the Reserve.

(3) Straight Talk Reserve: With Straight Talk Reserve, you may purchase and add Straight Talk Service Plans and Service Cards to your Straight Talk Reserve to be automatically applied on your Service End Date. You may access the Service Plans and Service Cards in your Straight Talk Reserve at any time through “My Account.” All Unlimited Service Plans and Cards you redeem are automatically added to your Straight Talk Reserve to be applied at your Service End Date. When purchasing and redeeming an All You Need Plan Service Card, customers will be prompted to elect either to apply the Service Plan or Card at that time or at their Service End Date. With Straight Talk Reserve, if you decide you might need a Service Plan or Service Card prior to your Service End Date, you can visit “My Account” to apply a Service Plan or Service Card or otherwise manage your Service Plans and Service Cards in Reserve. If you are an Auto-Refill customer and have decided to add a Service Plan or Service Card to your Straight Talk Reserve, the Plan or Card in Reserve will take precedence over the Auto Refill and it will be applied before an Auto Refill purchase is processed.

Yes, earl, I read that - unfortunately it doesn't work that way.

Your end date is currently 8/10/12. You add a new 30 day unlimited plan to your reserve and your new date gets pushed back 30 days from your original end date which is exactly 9/9/12. It's advertised as 1 Month, but the service days states that its only for "30 Days".

I am renewing for the first time, my expiration date is the 12th. I just ordered a $45 on Wal-mart using a california address so I didn't get charged tax. Hopefully they email my pin before sunday, lol.

Sorry, I was not clear. My account expires 8/23 (about 2 weeks from now). Today (the 10th) I tried the "Buy a service plan" in my account, and chose "add to reserve", and then it told me my new end date would be 9/9, which is 30 days from today, not the end of my plan (8/23) So I am wondering if "reserve" works on: from within my account "add a service plan to reserve". I know I have seen CS folk say that the way I first tried it, works. But it doesn't.

When did you order it? I figured that it would be immediate...

Please do tell me, when you add that pin, whether it reserves it correctly - (did it add based on today, or based on the end of your plan?) in other words do we always really have to wait until the last minute of the day to add the pin?

I add to reserve via web page and always get full thirty days no matter how early I add

ok. If I buy a card at my local Walmart, do I then need to wait until the last day of my service to add it? If I it before the last day of service it actually begins immediately and you get less than 30 days? I am at a dilemma as to how I am going to renew myself. I don't really understand the reserve thing, it doesn't seem like it works correctly then, and I don't feel comfortable really waiting until the last day. I am considering the auto renewal but I just don't know. Maybe I will just watch close this first month and add a 90 day card on this first time and see how that goes.

I got my PIN and added it to my reserve. It extended my end date until Sept 11, which is a full 30 days from the 12 of Aug.

Yes, it should add to the end of the current end date. Since yours did not, you need to contact their Facebook support, or if you have time to kill, call them. They should be able to rectify the date.

I did submit a ticket 6 hours ago and they finally responded saying they couldn't see it. Of course it had the wrong date so I canceled it before it completed. I was hoping they would actually fix it...
