Packet data and data roaming are on.

The phone I have is: http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_gala...s6802-4777.php

@ whipcream, I tried the APN settings that you referred to, still no luck

. Seems this phone only works on 2G as you don't have one that uses Fido's 3G freq. could it be that you need to switch it to 2G mode? Not an android OS expert but I know you can do that in the settings. Maybe you have to do that??
I'm not telling you anything that you can't just google for yourself

Make sure that there are no other APN's in the APN list. I've seen older handsets get confused and not pick the one for the current carrier. If there are other APN's listed, delete them. This removes all ambiguity.

Fido uses 850/1900 frequency for their 3G network. Your phone has HSDPA 900 / 2100. You will only be able to get 2G speeds on your phone. So you will need to turn off the 3G speed, and then connect.

Those would be the old settings. Although they should work fine, what he has on his phone is correct.

    resend to switch

if frequency is proper and apn is proper try resend to switch

call fido from a different phone

target phone battery out or flight mode if internal battery

ask for tech support or someone who knows how to troubleshoot data

ask them to resend to switch

they will tell you to go ahead and put the battery back in and power up

then your data should be working.

After 3 calls to Fido, data is now working. They said there was a data block on my account and they unblocked it and now data is working.

    Thanks for all the help.

@ Bad Liar - were on the phone with me when the Fido rep said to renew a 3 year data contract in order to have data working on the Samsung, how can you guarantee something that you weren't apart of.
