Service in Vancouver?

I'm looking to get some opinions on how Wind & Mobilicity is in Vancouver.

Reception? Call quality? Dropped Calls? Data speed/reliability? Issues?

All over Vancouver (Kits, Downtown, East Van, etc).

Wind & Mobilicity obviously have much better rates than the big 3 but reliability is at least as important as price to me.

So anything you could share would be helpful. Thanks.

To be honest if this is your main line and you constantly need signal so that family, boss, coworkers, or clients can get a hold of you, then Mobi is probably not the choice. You'll most likely need to be more specific because even within certain regions (not just Vancouver), there can be a drastic difference in signal strength.

Unfortunately I don't frequent those 3 regions all that that much so I can't comment. But what I do know is the PNE area is good.

Yes I realize that signal varies within an area but I'm not sure that drilling it down to an exact intersection would be helpful because if it is not reliable throughout Vancouver as a whole then it is probably not for me.

Well I'll give you certain parts of Vancouver that I can chime in on.

PNE = great
Downtown = generally great, deep inside Pacific Centre isn't that great, Skytrain stations (underground ones) forget about it
Along Kingsway = great/excellent
VGH = excellent, there's signal even inside the elevator.
Main Street = pretty weak in general (even outdoors), around 30's street that seems to be the worst part
Boundary Road = good/great

Most of the parts I just mentioned I've taken into consideration indoor penetration. I rarely go to the West End (Kits) so you'll need other members to chip in. Areas like Marine Drive which I do drive along are excellent, but that's only outdoors since I only drive by that area.

So Wind is better than Mobility (call quality is far less important than being able to make/receive a call), but of course better doesn't mean it is any good. So what do you think should I move my 5 lines to Wind?

If you have 5 lines why not move 1 to Mobi 1 to Wind and after a couple of weeks move the rest to whichever carrier you liked more? Consult sources like loxcel tower map (http://loxcel.com/celltower) and coveragemapper (though coveragemapper can be outdated) to make the best decision. I can't speak for Vancouver, but in GTA Mobi is much better than Wind for me because they have towers close to where I need them the most, it could be the same or opposite for you (or both of the new carriers could suck where you often travel). Only way to make sure is to consult an up to date source like loxcel and try for yourself. If both are the same Mobi would probably be your preferred carrier for their price, or Wind if you want the bigger coverage.

At the end of the day, you're probably looking at picking the lesser of the two evils.

I don't think tower maps would be very helpful as I don't want to know if it is good at my house/work I want to know if it is good in All of Vancouver.

And yes it is 5 lines but it is 5 different people with different locations and usage patterns so the trial thing is not really going to work. (Also I'd rather not buy 2 phones just to find out I won't be using them).

CS is not even a factor for me its really only about the network.

I'm sure I will end up staying on Rogers (or going to Telus or Bell) but I was hoping I would hear good things about Wind or Mobilicity...

Complete bull.. Your phone doesnt even ring sometimes on wind, people are directly sent to VM. And wind drops calls left right and centre as well. This fully depends on your area.

You get what you pay for. Between Rogers and Bellus, if you are getting a 3G phone, then Bellus 3G is amazing, and blows rogers out of the water! If you are getting an LTE phone, rogers LTE is better than bellus in the east. Out west, I dont know.

If you want reception / quality, forget about wind/mobi. Their reception is nowhere near the big3. Their price reflects the service. For aa personal phone, I wouldnt mind using them. For a business phone, stick to rogers (or bellus).

I would say move 1 line to Wind, see how it is, then decide if you move the other 4. Mobilicity was beginning to stretch it for me, but Wind I find is in the good enough category now.

Mobilicity's CS is nice, but their hands are tied, they can't do anything because the back end is so damn rigid.

Wind still drops calls. Maybe you are in a good area, near a tower.
