Will My iPhone 4S Work in Rankin Inlet?

    Hi everyone,

I hope I didnt break any rules by posting this in GD and here.
Trying to find out if my iPhone 4S on the Telus network will work in Rankin Inlet, Nunavut.
If not, can anyone give recommendations on a good phone to take up there?

I will keep an apartment in Rankin, as well as keep a home in Ontario, so would I be better off getting a plan from Ontario, adding my favortie 10 to it, then using it up in Rankin? Maybe this would be the cheaper way to do it as long as Telus has roaming rights on whatever carrier is up north.

I'm like a fish out of water so any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    e

Pretty sure that Rankin Inlet only has CDMA coverage. I have BB Torch which uses 3g/hspa and it is a paperweight when I get to Rankin Inlet. Also, I don't think i've ever seen anyone use an iPhone in Rankin before. Most people are running around with Black Berries. Now, I could be wrong, but I think you might be out of luck on the iPhone front.

    Have fun!

There is no coverage in Ranking, Inet at all. In fact, there is no service in Nunavut in general. No HSPA or CDMA coverage so no phone will work up there.

Ranken Inlet is CDMA only. Also Bell is the only major carrier that actually indicates they have service there on their coverage map. I've read reports of Telus CDMA phones working there, but don't think it is officially supported. Realistically you only need a basic device when you're up there. The CDMA network up there only supports 1XRTT and the backhaul is provided by satellite instead of fibre therefore any decent phone you could possibly use up there would be crippled by insanely slow data speeds.
