Question On the fence between Mobilicity and Wind Mobile

Last year I moved to the north-west corner of Brampton, right on the outskirts of the Brampton/Georgetown border (@ Bovaird Drive West & Worthington Avenue). I used to have Wind Mobile at the time but when I moved, the coverage was so poor I had no choice but to switch wireless carriers.

It's funny because when I look at Wind Mobile's coverage map today, the red line of coverage literally runs down my street, covering half of my street. Anyhoo....the coverage was fairly poor back then so I switched to Bell as a temporary fix. I am now with Telus Mobility and I'm fairly happy. Their coverage is great but the pricing could stand to be better.

So I'm thinking about switching back to either Mobilicity or Wind Mobile. My wife has Mobilicity and the coverage is just as bad as Wind Mobile was when we first moved here. She can only use her phone when she's in our bedroom. No other room in the house will her phone work (go figure). It's as if God wanted her to have some form of communication with the outside world if I got too crazy in the bedroom. LOL. I kid.

Can somebody please shed some light as to which carrier provides better coverage in my area? Has Wind Mobile improved in my particular area? Because if they're as bad as they were 1 year ago or if they're equal to Mobilicity, then I'll just stay put. I've thought about getting an AWS repeater but that's a very pricey investment and quite frankly I just don't think it's worth it. My philosophy is : If they want my business they better cover my area!

I don't know about your area, but when Mobilicity launched in Vancouver it was noticably better than Wind, Mobilicity has now regressed, while Wind has improved significantly.

You could try just getting a Wind SIM card and signing up on the Pay Your Way plan, take a few calls in various places and see how it goes.
The word 'Pentaband' means '5 Bands', from the Greek word 'pente' meaning '5'. For a phone to be pentaband it has to support 5 bands. If the phone has AWS support, it doesn't automatically mean that it is pentaband.

Don't send me PMs for questions that can be asked publicly.

WIND has a tower at 24 Holtby Avenue, Brampton, ON (loxcell) which is the nearest to your location. The easiest way to find out how the signal inside your house is to get a PYW SIM and try it out for a few days, if it works then port out.

Why dont you talk to telus retention? They have good plans like 85 SMB promo, which is quite good by big 3 standards!

Try a Wind prepaid SIM with your phones. If that works ALL around your house, basement, etc (maybe they installed a new tower since you were last with them) then switch both your phones. If that doesn't work, then definitely try Telus's retention department. But definitely get your wife to switch as well, not having coverage in most parts of the house is probably driving her crazy.

IA with Big Ang get your wife off Mobi pronto . Mobi is the type of service that either works for you or it doesn't, with no quick improvements coming if at all. I'm intrigued by Wind & think I may give them a shot, their BTS plan looks interesting. Their service has to be better overall then Mobi's terrible service in the GTA IMO.

It seems like just yesterday xtachx was all pumped up from the meeting with Mobi, & posting data speeds to show how great the network was . The move to the dark side is complete.

Um, what should I say when he says that mobi doesnt work for him? I did recommend mobi to the new person who wanted a SIM card in calgary. (coming from USA).

The thing is that as long as you dont mind occational signal drops, mobi is fine.

The title of the thread is a bit misleading IMO. " On the fence between Mobilicity and Wind Mobile" suggests that the OP is actually considering Mobi, which I find hard to believe after the comment about the terrible reception they get at home with Mobi.

Xtachx I bet it was more then occasional signal drops that made you switch so quickly from Mobi, after being one of their biggest cheerleaders.

Well, what happened was, earlier, the network worked all the way to my campus. So when I am traveling, I can talk over skype, listen to net radio etc. This changed over time. The signal got weaker and weaker, and then it was impossible to hold a skype call all the way through. It would cut out 3-4 times at least. 50% of the time I had no signal.

I started to walk after that and call over skype, but even then the signal would fluctuate like crazy from 1 block to another, and the call would drop! The data speeds tanked. If this wasnt enough, my friends started hearing messages like "this number is not in service" !!

I was forced to switch literally.
