One V on virgin or Transform on Ting?

I'm currently on Verizon with a thunderbolt. I love 4G and Verizon coverage but I'd rather spend less a month. I've been checking out various prepaid and other alternatives & I've settled on virgin or ting.

I like the one v that virgin offers but I'm really unimpressed with their coverage. Ting sounds pretty good coverage wise (the only sprint MVNO that allows roaming) and future network possibilities like LTE. I don't want to spend more than about $200 on a phone specifically that cap puts at the Samsung transform ultra.

My question is which is better?
One V(good) + virgin(bad) or
Transform Ultra(bad) + Ting(good)

I use about 800 minutes, 600 texts & 300 MBs a month.

It doesn't seem like "4G" or network speeds in general would be of priority or concern given you only use 300MBs per month. What city are you in?

I live in Eugene OR so LTE and wimax are both available.

I'm really surprised by how limited virgins coverage is. I occasionally drive to the coast so that's why I'm a little worried about it.

Either way, you'll be spending around $48 for service. You could either go with VM for a month to try it out (make sure the phone has a decent return policy) or just roll with Ting.

VM's phones are somewhat subsidized so you'll get a better phone for the same money. However, if you don't have/like the coverage, the phone won't do you much good.

You can get the Evo V (wimax) for $240 on the VM website.

I wouldn't worry about LTE coverage/compatibility in making your decision now. Can you even get a Ting LTE phone for < $200? If either Ting or VM suits you, you'll be saving a lot of money over VZ and the phone will pay for itself in 10 months. You could get another phone (or switch carriers) if you really wanted to upgrade then....or you could just keep saving your money!

Thanks for the feedback :-) I think I'll go with the one V since virgin has a decent return policy and I'll be able to figure out if the coverage will be good enough.

It'll be nice to be off contract finally and have flexibility/more money in my pocket.

If your used to, and like verizons 4g and coverage, I don't know how you are going to feel about vm's 3g and coverage. Lulz.

Be prepared to going from something like 10mb down to possibly 100k down.

While LTE is great, its not $80-$90/month great. I've only had LTE for a couple of months so changing back to regular CDMA won't be a major heartbreak.

300 MBs was my usage when I had my incredible2 before my current thunderbolt. Right now I'm using about 3 GBs mostly out of laziness hehe.

I'm really not worried about having any kind of 4G service right now. I'd rather just save money.

Not being on WiMAX any longer I've found myself using WiFi more often. Ting is intriguing since they will offer Sprint LTE data in conjunction with Verizon voice roaming, essentially Sprint postpaid services minus data roaming. Provided you are in a decent WiMAX market, it is also an excellent value on Virgin or Boost. http://www.clear.com/coverage/

How much are you looking to budget for service?

Page Plus is a good option if your worried about coverage since you know what you've got with Verizon.

I've been thinking about pages plus. I sell it where I work, but trying to find a reliable used Verizon phone with a clean ESN to use with Pageplus can be a pain anymore. If I could find a new/refurb incredible2 for about $200 I would definitely do Pageplus, but I'm not getting a phone off craigslist or ebay. Plus $55/month isn't a big enough savings right now. 39.95 w/ only 100 MBs is a little too restricted.

I paid 150.00 for my Incredible2 on eBay, like new in the box. It's all about the seller as you know.

As you know, 29.95 a month gets you 1200 minutes, 3000 text and 100MB of data. Ya, the data is skimpy but if you really need to save some money something has to give.

If your looking to do the 35 a month BT plan on VM that's a plan that's hard to beat but your original post indicates you need more minutes. There is the 45.00 plan or maybe 45 on Straight Talk would work?

Ting seems unique but when I did the numbers (based on my usage) I would be paying more than I did on Sprint postpaid.
I doesn't look like TING is going to save you any money either. It's 6.00 a month just for an active device then your plan + all the taxes and regulatory fees.

BOOST = Virgin, with different devices.

Hmm you bring up a good point. I might have to look at ebay again.

So many damned choices when it comes to prepaid. I had considered straight talk BYOD, but an unlocked GSM phone on par to the virgin one v is closer to $300.
