    Droid 2 Global (A956) won't text or show new voicemail on Page Plus

    Please help! I leave for a four month tour in less than two days, and my new phone won't text!

    I've been using an Eris on Page Plus for about two years, but finally decided to "upgrade" to a Droid 2 Global for the physical keyboard and newer OS. I called PPC from my laptop to activate the new phone, and they had me make a test call while on the line - that worked just fine. However, I can't send or receive text messages. Sending them just gets the error message "text message not sent". Customer service doesn't have a clue, and simply claims that they can't really do anything since it's not a Page Plus device.

    I've tried *228 option 1 multiple times, and even option 2 for the PRL update. I've made sure data is enabled (not that that should matter), I've done factory resets and tried on both the stock and newest software, and I've tried two different third party texting apps (GO SMS Pro and Handscent). No matter what, this phone will not send text messages. Any ideas? Thanks!

    p.s. the internet works just fine via 3G, and I can make and receive phone calls.

    If text messaging is enabled on your P+ account page (the one you access via the website), try disabling it, waiting a bit and re-enabling it. If that doesn't work, ask a CS person nicely to do the same thing (if you haven't already gone this route).

    The only other thing I could suggest is re-flashing the phone firmware.

    For most phones, text messaging is pretty easy to get working, in my experience. I use the same phone and it worked immediately upon activation.

    Where do you do this? When I sign into my account, the only thing even close I see is a small list of "phone features" - but it's just a list; not something that can be edited/enabled/disabled.

    New twist: I missed a call late last night. This morning, the caller asked to verify that I got their voicemail. Well...sure enough, I did - but the phone made no indication of new voicemail being present. The missed call icon came up, but no voicemail notice.

    The website is in the process of being updated and all of the self-serve check boxes have been removed. You'll either have to call PPC or use the PPC online chat.

    That figures...looks like I have to wait another hour to call (the chat service was utterly useless yesterday)

    Well, CS said nothing except "well, that definitely sounds like the phone is defective".

    Giving up. Phone's being returned, back to my beaten, half-dead Eris.

    So PPC said SMS was already enabled? And when they disabled it and then re enabled it, SMS still didn't work?

    Why don't you switch back (esn change) to the eris to see if all works ok like it had before. If it does then switch back again to your new phone. Doing so would also accomplish a handset re-authentication (esn reset), which may help the cause.
    I recently tested the "don't mention a PP Dealer by name" rule here on PP Hofo......trust me, it is still in effect - got me a 7 day ban.

    or you might want to reflash the firmware to your phone or try a flashing a custom rom. you can check xda for info on rooting and different roms.

    I think he may be looking for more of a "plug 'n' play" solution, with his time constraint.

    Try this:

    Go to messages, then menu button, then settings and see if there is a message center number. It should be +316540951000

    The + must be in front of the number.

    You may have to dial *#*#4636#*#* then call to access the setting under phone information.
