Right now I'm using an iPhone 4 32GB on Red Pocket with the $30 plan because I'm a cheapskate when it comes to my cell service. I keep seeing the $30 T-Mobile plan popping up though, and I'm toying with the idea of swapping out phones to something like either the SGS2 or Gnex and jumping on this plan - mainly because of the data plan but also because if I decide that I don't like T-Mobile's reception and quality that I can at least go back to Red Pocket Mobile and still have 3G connectivity.
I hardly ever use my phone for talking...99% of my phone usage is text messages and surfing over WiFi when I have a hotspot available. I worry about my cell phone reception though, in the city and away from the city (I'm in the Memphis/North MS area) and I don't know if I'm ready to switch from AT&T's cell network over to T-Mobile since apparently T-Mobile Monthly4G doesn't roam on other GSM towers like postpaid plans do.
I'm almost considering buying one of those SIM devices that lets you put two micro-SIMs in a single mini-SIM and using two different SIMs on my phone (I believe that you dial a special number in the phone's dialer to actually switch which SIM card is being used) just so I can have the best of both worlds - i.e. better coverage with AT&T MVNO prepaid and texting/data through T-Mobile for cost effectiveness.
Has anybody ever even attempted this with something like the SGS2 or Gnex? I'd love to get some feedback regarding this dilemma, because I feel like I could easily force myself to switch to an Android device from my iPhone if I can get 5GB of 4G data that cheap. Thanks.

You won't know if T-Mobile will work for you until you try it. Recently I spent time in north eastern Pa. I checked the coverage map and saw that I wouldn't have any service where we were going. My husband had his ATT contract phone (the coverage map said he would have both voice and data) so we were set. On the drive there, I did lose data coverage but, unexpectedly, had voice coverage all the way. When we got to where we were going (a very remote lake), my husband couldn't get a signal at all and I did. I could make calls and text no problem while he had to go outside and up the hill to make a call. My point is, you have to try it out to see if it will work for you in the areas you go.
It's very worth it in my opinion. Even if you think 100 mins is too little and you don't want to use a VOIP solution it's only 10c/min after the 100 mins allowed. You would have to be using 400 mins consistently and then it's the same price as the $70 plan.
If I see my usage is more than 500 mins a month on a regular basis I change to the 70 plan
I'm on the $30 plan for tmobile on my factory unlocked iPhone 4 and I love it. I can tether without paying a fee and everything. Mms was skittle tricky bitty I got it working through ibackup so I'm very happy. I was on the $25 plan with AT&T which gave me 250 minutes and unlimited texting but I barely talk and I wanted internet. So I switched and I'm very happy with this plan
Tricky* but
I'm on the $30 plan and LOVE it. I rarely use voice... but do lots of data. I stream Tune In several hours each day at work and it works perfectly. Even with all of the data usage I rarely break 2GB a month.
I've never owned a smartphone before now... but this Galaxy S 4G paired with TMO's $30 plan has literally changed my life for the better!

Joplin T-Mobile
My ever growing phone collection. Dang... this stuff is addicting...
T-Mobile: Samsung Galaxy S2 (daily driver), Nokia Lumia 710, Blackberry 8820, Blackberry 8810 (unlocked AT&T), Blackberry 8110 (unlocked AT&T) - all running on the $30 Walmart 100 min 5GB/4G prepaid plan. Love it!
Rocket 4G USB stick, Rocket 2.0 4G USB stick, Dell Streak 7 tablet - all running on the $25 1.5GB/4G Mobile Broadband prepaid plan.
At 2 g you'll probly never break 5 gigabytes. Even if you did they just throttle you too 2 g anyways.
I even watch 3 g youtube videos being they are small I really go over 1 gigabyte. That includes tethering to play knights of the old republic

It's really worth it. Also for the past 2 days my Web data counter has reset and stuck at 0mb used even when clearly using data. I'm about half way through the month and this stated happening.
I think it's cool honestly, having being stuck in gprs and edge most of the time I hardly use any data to begin with.
When you say that you change your plan to the $70/month plan, you mean for the following month, right? I assume you can't change a plan for the current month -- in other words, if it looks like I'm going to be way over 100 minutes for the month that's already started, I can't just switch to the $50 a month plan and pay less than I would have if I had to pay the 10 cents per minute overage?
Also, is there any problem switching back to the $30/100 min plan from the $70 plan? Thanks!
most of us use voip to get unlimited talk. only using the cell minuts if we have no data.
Thanks for the info! So when you get a new SIM you'd also have to get a new phone number? I'm assuming T-Mobile wouldn't port a number from an old T-Mobile SIM to a new T-Mobile SIM?
While on the subject, does anyone know if you can port a number to/from carriers that use T-Mobile's network such as Straight Talk (T-Mobile SIM) or Simple Mobile to/from T-Mobile Prepaid?
