More nickling and diming? MyRewards discontinued

    Just got this message:

On Sept 28 MyRewards is being discontinued & you'll no longer be able to collect MyRewards dollars. Use your remaining MyRewards dollars to enter for a chance to win 1 of 10 Samsung Galaxy Tabs. Learn more at telusmobility.com/MyRewards. Free TELUS msg
Funny enough I have not even been with Telus long enough to get any My quest for a COUGH "perfect" COUGH prepaid provider remains...

I mistakenly thought MyRewards were "perks" before clicking into this thread and was about to say welcome to 2010. but i'm guessing this is the equivalent of fidodollars for prepaid users? anyways i'm not surprised. there's a reason why the telus stock price is going up. if you want "perfect", buy some telus stock. i got in at like $46.

Not nickel and diming, more removing value. Generally, unless you planned on using them on a higher end phone, you were better off buying a prepaid bundle and activating that on your existing line.

I suspect that Telus will encourage prepaid users to move to Koodo with the rumored start up of the service with Wallmart in a couple of days time. Hence the recent data plan downgrades the cancellation of unlimited to one number and now this.

I suspect you are right, rchl. Telus really offers a meager amount of prepaid options compared to Rogers now. I suspect they'll boost the 1GB plan to $35/month soon too, if the rumors are true that Walmart Koodo will cost that.

How DO you get MyRewards anyway? My parents have been on P&T since it started on CDMA.... $10/mth works for them... never gotten a cent of any "MyRewards," it was always $0 on the website!

this would seem like doing steps 1-3-2 if that is indeed true. wouldn't it make more sense to launch the walmart thing with more attractive prepaid options and THEN discontinue a service? this gap allows for exodus to the competition.

MyRewards was for people who spent beyond a certain minimum threshold in a month (the amount escapes me - $50?). And as has been mentioned, the prepaid bundle phones that the discount wasn't applicable for were considerably cheaper most of the time. In all my years I don't recall anyone coming in to redeem a MyRewards discounted phone actually ending up using them - they'd buy a P&T bundle at full retail instead and be considerable money ahead.

Slightly off topic, but humorous anyway: every time I log into Telus I get this message "You're eligible for a new phone - View your offers".
I'm an absolute sucker for offers. When I click that link, I have to wait for 5 minutes while my "personalized" items are fetched. Then, finally, I get the following breathtaking discounts:

Nokia Lumia. Full price: $229.99. You pay: $229.99
Samsung Galaxy S3. Full price: $649.99. You pay: $649.99
    Etc...

Who could ever pass up on such generosity? Wow... I feel so special now

$50/mth huh... that's what I pay on a MTM and I'm sure I get a lot more features than a prepaid customer at $50. yesh.

Good for you, whatever works for you Different people, different needs... that's why there are so many providers and packages available. But yes I agree that from $50/month and higher, postpaid gets better features than prepaid

One thing we definitely all agree on: in Canada, we get to pay premium price no matter what

And yes, LOL, that's the "special offer" I got to see as well

I have $65 in My Rewards dollars, but there is no way of using that except to buy a phone at retail price from Telus, or convert my account to a postpaid and use that to reduce the subsidized price of the phone.

Guess that's why after so many years, I jumped at the chance to open a Telus corporate plan for one line, and porting out the prepaid line to a Rogers corporate line for my wife.
