Samsung Galaxy S2 Data speeds ST - comparison of basebands...

About 2 weeks ago I got a ST ATT BYOD Sim. I had an iPhone 3g lying around and decided to use it till I got a more current device. I had my eyes on a Atrix 4g. Then two of my friends, who live overseas, bought Galaxy S2 (I777) and shipped it to me to test before taking it to them when I head there in a few weeks.

Long, short of it I got an Galaxy S2 I727 after playing with theirs. However I have had very very varying experience with data speeds on using the ST Sim. I have played with the APN settings and googled to no end. Most advice is along the lines of "Use another baseband". There seems to be no consensus to the source of the problem.

This is utterly utterly bizarre. Any clues greatly appreciated since I would love to stay on ICS and get HSPA+ speeds and also ensure that the other two galaxy s2s work for my friends overseas.

Suggestions welcome. I have the three galaxy s2 phones and have some leeway in playing with them.

First I want to make sure that you know that the I777 and I727 are two totally different devices. Second, we don't normally refer to them as basebands, that's iphone talk... they're either modems or radios. I hate to refer you away from HOFO but XDA is going o be your best bet for more information on the two phones.

For your friend's phones, the Galaxy S II SGH-I777 modem thread can be found here. If you have time to dive into that thread it's full of good info. I'm running the UCKH7 modem now.

For your phone the Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727 you should start here. And please read at least the first few pages and the last few pages of the thread BEFORE flashing anything.

I have to say that I am getting rid of my samsung and I won't be buying another. I have the sprint model. They upgraded to ICS and since then their data speeds are junk.

Apparently it is a samsung issue with that model working with ics and they are working on it.

    That's how I know I shouldn't wait.

I have an unlocked SGH I-777 running for a month now on net10 and I am unimpressed with anything but the places I can get a signal- (way more than Sprint who used to have the best coverage in SF) . y data went out twice and I had to call CS-this last time I said i wanted a manager and 3 minutes later I had one on the phone. Not only that but she was actually somewhat knowledgeable She got my data back up using the wap.tracfone APN - but except for a few times when I hit 2-6 MB down, I must be averaging under .5 or something because I have to refresh almost every webpage. Also, I am wondering if I should give up on Samsung, as I had a terrible experience with my Galaxy S2 Epic 4G on Sprint. Went through 6 of them with the same terrible signal and WiFI issues with no fix. Now while this ATT version seems better in a lot of ways, the WiFi radio is just as bad and while the signal strength is better, the slow data is killing me. Does anyone have suggestions for the best Unlocked GSM med- high end Android phone that works on both ATT and T-Mobile bands and has true HSPA42+ ? Please let me know.

Sprint must have left a sour taste in your mouth. Although Tracfone, Straight Talk, Simple Mobile, Net 10, etc are all American Mobile, maybe your answer lies in the NET 10 forum. Good luck.
