    Sorry Coverage While Roaming

I have been on vacation in Dallas Texas this week and my data service has been horrible! Voice seems to work ok, but the gs3 loves data.
I called 611 (hate to refer to them as customer service cause they are not) and the lovely lady on the phone informed me I am roaming so there is nothing they can do about it. She told me I should call Verizon, who is probably who I am roaming on, and see if they can help. I couldn't believe my ears! I asked her so you want me to call your competitor to trouble shoot my problem even though I pay us cell and they are the ones who have the roaming agreement? She said yes because they can't do anything about it. I told her if I call Verizon it would not be to troubleshoot my service, but to switch my service to them!
I sure don't know who votes for us cell and the top customer service award, but this is the second time I have been treated like an ugly step child. Both times I was calm and never gave a reason for them to act in such a unprofessional manner.

Am I the only one who has problems with service while roaming or is this just how US cells roaming agreements work?

This. Also, I frequently roam and I think I roam on Sprint. My data speeds are usually pretty horrid. (around 300-700 kbps usually, generally only surpassing 1 mb in the middle of a city).

While Roaming ANY network issue or problem, Is not a PROBLEM and NOT uscellulars FAULT. It would be Verizon, Sprints, etc`s coverage. Its prob sprint your roaming on if data is awful

Even so USCC should be the one the op deals with. If you call Verizon without and account they won't help you. Roamer support like the prior posters mentioned is who you'll want.

I think data roaming is a universal problem, not just US Cellular.

I suggest you look into prepaid options for the particular carriers which
are strong in the areas you wish to roam in.

I was up in northern WI last week and constantly dropped calls and had little to no 3G coverage. Everyone told me to do the *228 thing before I leave my home area but that wasn't the problem... I'm always up on that. As soon as my phone switched back over to USCC's native coverage, all my phone problems cleared up.

Yup, that'll happen in some areas. When I was on uscc TMDA, I would visit KC about once a month. As soon as I left Jaspar county, north of Joplin, I would start roaming on ATT AMPS, without fail, even *in* KC. Regardless of what phone I used, even my Nokias. As soon as we switched to CDMA, I would roam on Verizon CDMA. No data (at that time, we didn't have data anyway) or texting, but at least it wasn't AMPS, even though my phones were capable. Of course, later on, we got texting, then data roaming enabled, which was nice, and it was comparable to what we had in Tulsa.

I was in northern Wisconsin last month and had great call coverage and 3g, although it was a but slow. We were near Lac du Flambeau (by Minoqcua).

I was in Oshkosh, Wisconsin for the last week of July, at the EAA Airventure, and had very good coverage with my 2 yr old HTC Desire. The 3G data there was even better than it usually is here in my home in north central Texas.

Oshkosh is native USCC territory which is why you got good coverage and good 3G coverage. You won't roam in that area of the state until you get about 15 miles north of Green Bay (about 60 miles north of Oshkosh).

Plus everyone brings in a mobile-cell tower to help with the congestion during that week in that area. There was one time at my house where I couldn't complete a call for the life of me... I chalked it up to EAA and overloaded switches.

What I think is worse is this is an Illinois company and I lose coverage (complete data & even some phone) on Interstate 80 in Illinois. Interstate 39 south of I-80 isn't much better when I travel. How are the Interstates not covered??? Seriously, an interstate 75 miles from your headquarters has no coverage???

It's your own fault for living in Illinois. On a related note, I think Matthews just sacked Cutler again.

For several years, they didn't have spectrum at all in Chicago, despite having corporate headquarters there. Yes, there are still parts of Illinois where they do not own spectrum and roaming is lacking. If they don't own spectrum in a market, that would include any cities and major highways in the area.
