    Mobilicity HTC Panache on Wind

Since porting over from Mobilicity to Wind with an HTC Panache I've generally had better signal strength and download speed, but the disconnect problems that were more of an issue in my early days with Mobilicity seem to be cropping up again - i.e. the phone will disconnect itself from the network as random times even in the presence of strong signal.

As I had the device longer on Mobilicity, the signal dropping problem seemed to more or less disappear eventually, suggesting that it could be impacted by something related to the network configuration.

Just wondering if anyone can comment on using this Mobilicity phone on Wind - have you noticed problems of this sort? Given that it's basically a relabelled TMobile MyTouch4G, is anyone on Wind trying any of the other ROMs and observing whether or not they had any effect on signal loss issues for this phone?

The Panache is the worst part of the problem. I had constant signal drops that I'd never experienced on my Nexus One and that I experience maybe 5-10% as frequently on my Galaxy Nexus now. Other ROMs will not help - it's just a phone with a lousy radio. It seems to handle T-Mo's network better, possibly because there's EDGE fallback.

We had a Mobi Panache, same issue. Dumped it in favor of a Galaxy Nexus and never looked back. That may be our last HTC handset since they never seemed too interested in fixing the issue... in fact, they wouldn't even acknowledge the issue existed.

Oh yeah, and the Panache was unable to receive MMS messages as well. Instead, we would just receive a message that stated "A Media has been removed", in multiple languages. Seemed to be an issue directly related to the Panache which we were never able to resolve.

I am wondering if it is a network issue. I have a panache running on Mobilicity. That phone has been solid for the most part.

I have a friend who got one on Mobilicity in Vancouver and he had exactly the same issue.

Although I should add, it might be an issue that only some units have. If you have a "bad" unit, you'll have signal drops on HSPA; if you have a "good" unit, smooth sailing.

I have the phone and I have this issue. I thought I was the only one (maybe I dropped the phone one too many times). As I mentioned in another post, it drops signal in certain places without fail and randomly when I try to use my phone from an inactive state.

The MT4G/Panache is known to come in a variant with a "bad eMMC" chip that sometimes bricks the phone randomly and irreversibly - worse if you hack the phone but sometimes it even happens on bare-bones stock. There is also a "good eMMC" variant that this never happens to.

Some posters on XDA and HoFo noticed after the Panache came out - most (but not all) Mobilicity units were "bad eMMC" and most Videotron units were "good eMMC". Just about everyone who reported signal drops had the "bad" version, and nobody on Videotron reported anything similar. Note that nobody reported these drops on T-Mobile either, but T-Mo has EDGE fallback - and I do recall reading some MT4G owners found their phone would drop to EDGE for a while in a zone where they should have had full bars of 3G.

Good to know. I have a Panache on Mobilicity that had dropped call last Oct when I 1st got it, then it's getting better and has been ok until 2 weeks ago. Wonder maybe I should change the phone.

I discovered the following in the Mobilicity known problems and solutions last night shortly after posting (bolding mine):
Problem: Panache Shows "Emergency Only" randomly.

Analysis: Power saving mode causes panache to search and try to connect to 2G networks, however if you are in the city, then it cant connect to CDN Roaming, leaving the phones antenna in "emergency only" for a bit till it finds mobilicity.

Solution: No good solution is known. The T-Mobile Mytouch4G (panache) radio software fixes this, but its performance is bad. Some people reported that flashing the panache solved this for them, but flashing this phone isnt for the faint hearted. Have a look: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...1&postcount=98
You still wanna do that, especially if this is your first time? I dont think so.

A simple solution will be to manually select the network instead of "auto", but this has other problems like, when you lose service (tunnel etc), the phone wont find it unless you manually do it.
On the first bolded bit I'm a bit unsure what it means if a fix has "bad performance". On the second, might this explain why I had this problem crop up more frequently since porting over to Wind - i.e. if I was no longer manually selecting the network?

No amount of changing ROMs is going to fix this issue. I can tell you that if you flash the oldest Froyo radio for the Mytouch 4G, your problem will essentially be gone (all other radios don't do anything to fix the issue). The random signal drop still happens but it recovers within a few seconds. This means that if someone tries to call you when the signal drop happens, your phone will still ring once it reconnects to the network. I know for certain that a long prolonged period of time of the phone being in sleep mode usually triggers the network disconnection phenomenom. Each and every day after waking up, the phone will do the random disconnection whenever someone makes the first incoming call to that phone for the day - almost never failed to happen just like that. Unfortunately, with the stock Panache radio, it takes nearly a full minute to reconnect, meaning that the person calling you will not be able to get through.

Had the Panache and it was so bad I ended up going back to a BlackBerry out of desperation.

The only "fix" I can really suggest is to find a more stable device and pawn off your Panache on Craigslist to someone who doesn't read HoFO :P

I had two HTC Panaches. I loved the device very much but the signal problem was because of the phone not the service. But rooting the phone and upgrading to AOSP/AOKP ROM did the trick. I don't remember it ever losing signal ever after that. Its a software issue in the panache. I recommend you root it and upgrade to ICS.

Well, reconnect within a few seconds, adequate to have the phone ringing sounds probably good enough to me. Flashing the radio is separate from flashing the device if I understand correctly? (Guess I'll find out whether or not I manage to brick my phone... but since I don't like dishing out defective devices to others anyways...)

AOKP seems to be a specific build, and the releases I looked at don't show a Panache/Glacier/MyTouch4G build - or are you grabbing an unofficial version some place like here - and even there there seems to be a bunch tagged AOKP. Any specific ROMs reccomended? Did you separately flash a radio?

Flash any latest ICS rom. And it should help a lot. I don't have my panache anymore so idk the exact build but it was aokp because I remember the pink unicorn.
