I spoke to customer care and it looks like the reason I cannot connect to LTE is my data plan. I figured as much. I posted more detail on page 5 of this thread:

What's interesting is that you state you can see LTE signal. I can't. it stays on 4G. I still have to test at home to get a more definitive answer.
    what APNs have you tried?
    do any of them connect?

    ltemobile.apn
    lteinternet.apn
    internet.fido.ca

All work for me here in North York, but it stays on 4G. Speeds are a little better, this might be due to DC-HSPA though.

My hotspot also stays on 4G (HSPA+) until I go into the menu and force it to LTE only. Once forced to LTE only it loses connectivity, and after about 30 seconds or so the LTE signal shows up. I can confirm that it is LTE by going into "more info" where the RSSI and other data are shown. If you can't figure out how to force LTE only it could be that you are running old firmware. Go into the support section on the Sierra Wireless website and check for updated firmware.
So far I've tried ltemobile.apn, ltedata.apn, and internet.fido.ca. When I get home from work, I'm going to take a few hours and try every APN possibly connected with Rogers or Fido including cutting my sim down into a microsim and trying it in an unlocked Rogers Samsung Galaxy S3 that I borrowed.

Sadly no luck. It's looking like this will go nowhere until the LTE feature is added to the $50 unlimited data plan.

I was having the same problem with trying to buy the Hotspot with FD, but I went in on Friday evening (my 5th trip), and the employee at the Fido kiosk called the call centre and the lady on the other end was really helpful. They came up with a workaround that allowed me to get the hotspot.

They said that I can pay now with my credit card at the kiosk and they would credit my account the same amount, adjusting my FD balance to reflect that. I was a little concerned because the call centre rep needed to send an email to get a manager to actually credit my account. But I didn't know when the IT guys would actually fix the FD glitch, so I went ahead with it and walked out with the Hotspot & LTE SIM for $200 + 12%BCHST.

Well, by the time I got home, I got an email saying that the credit has been applied to my account! So, it all worked out nicely. It's not ideal, seeing as how I had to pay upfront, but I had already sold my USB stick a week ago and my UL data plan was just sitting unused and needed that hotspot ASAP.

Unfortunately, no LTE for my GPUNL, only HSPA+, but at least I got the device so I can use my plan.

What speeds are you getting on speedtests?
My connection shows up as 65Mbit
In real life, I've pulled down 3.3MB/sec.
Is it possible to have a tri-channel-HSPA cause that's what my speeds seem to reflect

Do you know if the 6GB Blackberry dataplan will also be eligible for LTE?

I would hate to have to switch back to regular 6GB just to get LTE.

I have the regular Sierra Aircard from Fido AC763S.

I speedtest over 20Mbits with each of these apn

    lteinternet.apn
    Fido-core-appl1.apn
    internet.fido.ca
    ltemobile.apn

all show up as 4G only on the display.
