Hi,
I have a phone that is completely dying soon. I've had it for about 2 years now. The batter life is horrible. My phone would die after talking on the phone for less than a minute.
My question is, can I activate a used HTC Droid without having to pay for a data plan? My boyfriend has a Droid that he doesn't use anymore since he upgraded to an iPhone. My current phone plan only includes minutes and text/picture message. I want to use the Droid because I don't want to pay for a new phone and I only have about a year left on my Verizon phone plan.
If you activate a smartphone on Verizon you will be forced to pay for a data plan also. If the only problem with your old phone is battery life have you considered just buying a new battery? Or is that not an option for you?
Another option would be to terminate your Verizon contract (and pay the ETF) and activate the Droid on Page Plus. Page Plus uses the Verizon network and you can activate a smartphone without paying for a separate data plan. In the long run it may actually be cheaper to move to Page Plus even counting any ETF you may have to pay Verizon for terminating your contract early. You could also port your phone number over to Page Plus.
