Clarification on the "$25 Plan" mentioned in FAQ

new here. don't understand cell phones and plans but I did find:

Q: Can i keep my grandfathered $25 plan? Will upgrading or changing my number allow me to stay grandfathered?

Apparently I have a plan called Minute to Minute. Is this the same as the plan mentioned above?
My phone is an audiovox 8500 or something close to that, from 2003. Still works. Hate screen and buttons. People make me text them. it's hell.

But my main issue is - it's going to die sometime and I think I missed the window for buying a phone that Virgin Mobile will accept with the plan. I'm attempting to be proactive and at least locate a phone to replace the one that will break. So is this the same plan and if so, where does one buy the phones mentioned in the Question - from VM or somewhere else (like a store, or ebay)
I rarely use my phone so I don't want to lose what is apparently a plan so great that they discontinued it.(I think I'm paying $16+ every 90 days.

    thanks

No, sounds like you are paylo, nothing to do with the 25$ plan.

    Hi! Welcome to the forum...

Sounds like what you have is the PayLo plan. If you go to the VM website, and click on PayLo phones, you can select a phone of your liking to work with your plan. (You can even use your account balance to pay for it if you have enough dough in the account...)

When you get the phone in hand, go to your account and click "swap phones". Follow the instructions. You SHOULD be able to swap your old 8500 to a new PayLo phone. In the event that the plan changes, you can click on "don't see the plan you want" and it will give you the $20 every 90 day option, which is what it sounds like you have right now anyway.

    I don't remember any $16 / 90 day plans, and I've been here since early 2005...

Basic rates are now .20˘ a minute, .15˘ per text and .25˘ for picture text / good for 90 days with a $20 top up.

You can't do that. As soon as your phone gives up, you would be out of that plan. I would suggest you get the new paylo phones and plans or get an android smartphone.
Contracts ?? Ain't nobody got time for that !

Do you have your account set for Auto Top-Up every 90 days, do that you only pay $15 + tax? That's what it sounds like, anyhow. I believe you should be able to cart that to another PayLo phone, as long as you use it in the same account (phone number) as your old phone. I know you can keep the $20/90 day rate on a different PayLo phone, because I recently bought the Kyocera S2300 to replace an old Arc, and it let me keep the same basic rate.

If you want to confirm whether you can keep your lower rate, you may want to email "saveme@thevirginangels.com" or post the question to VMUSA's Facebook page. Their Social Care Team can hopefully give you a definite answer there. Good luck!

thanks and good thing I asked!
If I was PayLo, would the website tell me that?
(where on the website would it tell me?)

    right now I can find

    UTStarcom Vox 8500VM8500

    (727) number
    Minute2Minute

    25˘/min for first 10 mins per day;

(it's possible someone changed me to paylo, but I don't see it...

I then went to Change plans to see if iit would tell me

    YOUR CURRENT PLAN

    Minute2Minute

there are a batch I can *change to* and 4 of them are named PayLo (how many paylo's are there?)

    payLo $20 Talk Includes 400 Minutes $20.00
payLo $30 Talk & Text Includes 1500 Minutes
payLo $40 Unlimited Talk & Text Includes Unlimited Minutes
    payLo Basic Rate 10˘

I'm assuming that the fact I can change to them means I am not on any of them.
    I don't remember any $16 / 90 day plans, and I've been here since early 2005...
Wow! That's impressive (seriously - no sarcasm) but I've had this plan since 2003. It may have been $20 for 90 days before they put it on autopay if that helps.

Yes. And apparently Yes is too short an answer for the forum. Autopay, just not Paylo.

    oops.. missed this part

well at least we've determined I don't have the $25 plan. I noticed that the phones that one could use with the $25 plan (in the FAQ) were all out of stock.
I'm just concerned that anything I do could change my plan (I'll try not to change my credit card!)

I'll go look at the site again

I really need to read entire messages. Yes, that is what I had, till they put me on autopay, so now it's $15 plus tax. either way, it's still they best rate around as far as i know, for people who don't use their phones for conversation (though I don't know how I've started getting these spam texts lately (past year or more). And I vaguely remember a message that first minute had dropped to 20 cents (good thing, with the spam texts and the people who won't reply to voice calls. I've figured out google voice for texts - I just need to remind someone to not reply repeatedly)

"PayLo" is now Virgin Mobile's term for the kind of service you're on; it encompasses the Basic Rate/minute-by-minute people (like you and the secondary phone I have) as well as those $30/$40 plans they show. Since the Basic Rate is still available, and you are still on Auto Top-Up, you should be able to keep that option with a new "PayLo" phone.

The $25 plan from the FAQ refers to a "Beyond Talk" plan that is no longer available, but that some people are still grandfathered onto. The only way to get it now would be to find someone selling their plan/account and take it over from them - you can find some listings for it on eBay.

    Thank you!
(gee, could they make it any more confusing? that was just the kind of thing I was trying to avoid by not getting a phone with a contract and plan)

LOL, exactly. I think they're trying to bury the fact that the Basic Rate still exists; can't imagine that it's a real money-maker compared to the monthly plans. Still, it's nice to have both options available!

Ah yes, I do remember "Minute2Minute" plans. They were being phased out when I came on board in 2005... I'm on the grandfathered .18˘ per minute / $20 / 90 plan...I was once on a plan they had for $7.99 a month that gave you .10˘ minutes, but they did away with that one too...

I just messaged their facebook page to find out if I'll lose my Sugar Mama bonus minutes when I switch from my current PayLo to the new Chaser I just bought. I'd hate to lose those freebies...

I mean that "being confused" is what I was trying to avoid.

Hi, I just joined I happened to catch on that if my phone died, I couldn't get another and keep my plan the minute2minute. Unfortunately, I found something in the faq site on VirginMobileUSA that leads me to think our plan is going bye bye. I really hate that but what are you going to do? I hope I'm wrong, we just got topped up the last of the month and haven't gotten a notification yet of anything so ?? Here's the link to the plans going away, no one can sign up for them anyway but looks as if they are disappearing. We have a credit of almost $300 so I only hope I can apply that to a smart phone.

Opps, I couldn't post the link as I'm too new, just search in faq with Expired Virgin Mobile USA Plans 2012

This is near the bottom of the page "When will the plan change begin and when will plans retire?

The plan migration process will begin in August, 2012 with an estimated completion date of December 31, 2012"

It has been years since they let anyone sign up for these plans so understandable some think this is the paylo plan, not tho!
