Discrepancies in roaming services in Canada?
A few weeks ago I was up in Sudbury and Killarney Provincial Park. Roaming services were good in Sudbury; however, when I got to my campsite the next day I was getting 1 bar and couldn't make any calls. It was kind of bizarre because I had my work blackberry phone with me (runs on Rogers) and it was getting 3 bars at the same time and location and could perfectly make a call. Any chance Rogers might have a hand in this?

I don't think so. Wind has an agreement with Rogers for roaming, so that would mean both phones (if the same) would get the same signal.
The reason they are different I'm thinking is your phones, what phones did you use?
When I went roaming in Quebec not too long ago, I had the same coverage as my friends Rogers phone.

I know but Rogers has been known to pull things on Wind customers who are roaming on their network such unexpected dropped calls and them having to redial.
My wind phone is the Samsung Galaxy SIII, while my work phone is a Blackberry Curve 9300.

That's because Rogers only does hard hand-overs with WIND when roaming. They have no way of adjusting signal level based upon what phone is connected to the same tower. Also might relate to what band the phones support and are defaulting to.Originally Posted by markNatalie

Rogers has roaming agreement with TBayTel and DMTS mobility. Wind doesn't. Your rogers phone will work in north bay ON but your wind phone won't.
Maybe its a similar situation.

Rogers has service in North Bay and Sudbury and Wind should roam fine in both locations.
Killarney is spotty service for Rogers which could be why you were having issues (ie differences in hardware).

Wind Roaming use Rogers 2G while you BB is on 3G, this could be the differences.

According to their coverage map, they should at least have 2G coverage around George Lake.

Blackberry's in general have the best antennas and will give you better reception then any other phone.

That is true, we did this experiment in class by putting my HTC in the microwave and calling it, didn't work. Then we put a blackberry in there and it worked. But mind you I had mobilicity and the blackberry had bell. However, we couldn't produce similar results with the same device on the Rogers network.

Incorrect, Winds Roaming agreement with Rogers is an agreement to roam. It's not restricted to 2G, if your Device Supports HSPA 850 & 1900Mhz you will Roam on HSPA.

Three possibilities;
1) The phone you have with Wind is a samsung -- they have terrible reception.
2) The rim phone misrepresents the signal quality and pretends that it is stronger than it really is.
3) The rim phone may be compatible with additional bands that are used by robbers, possibly a different one works better there than your other phone is compatible with.

I wasn't able to roam on Rogers at Bon Echo provincial park. "Your SIM does not allow connection to this network"
Rogers does present here, my mates had no issues there.
Wind is so sorry for not having any 2G coverage so they've offered a 2G speeds, just to cheer us up
