    One more problem with AT&T!

Yet another at&t woe. I recently had AT&T unlock my iPhone 4s. Back in April I put in a request and in a week or so they responded with my unlock approval. Very easy process...
Forward in time to Saturday my iPhone dies .... thankfully it was under warranty the only bad part was the 6 hour drive to my nearest Apple Store round trip. The friendly Geniuses quickly threw me a new device so today I call AT&T to get my unlock.
The experience was quite unpleasant and I have to forward a receipt to them which I didn't have to do before and it's impossible for me to do that since I bought it on eBay.
However, I ended up getting my apple work authorization that shows the device is mine so I hope that's enough....I'm a magnet for bad luck.

Actually this has nothing to do with AT&T. If Apple replaced your phone under warranty, the replacement phone should come with the same lock status as the one that's being replaced. If the bad phone was factory-unlocked, you should get a factory-unlocked replacement from Apple. Call them to sort it out.

Also, I'm not sure your story adds up. AFAIK, AT&T only unlocks iPhones for which the original contractual obligation has been fulfilled. How is that even possible with an iPhone 4S?

Nothing to do with AT&T? Considering its locked to their network and they're the ones that have to send me the unlock I can see why it has nothing to do with AT&T.
    Troll elsewhere.

My iPhone was purchased full price genius. I've never contracted through AT&T.
Furthermore, my phone was not factory unlocked from Apple technically. AT&T unlocked it once they implemented their new policy regarding unlocking iPhones for folks who pay for their devices in whole or those who fulfilled their contract.

LOL... not only are you attacking a Mod and calling him a troll right now, but he gave you the exact answer you're looking for - that this isn't AT&Ts problem. If you bought your phone from Apple at full price, instead of on ebay, it's their job to provide it to you unlocked -- they've been doing it since November of last year for all phones sold at full price... and they even give you the choice in plain English on their website:

"Or get iPhone unlocked and contract-free"

Since you bought it on ebay, it's likely a device that was subsidized that someone turned around and sold for profit online, using an old phone of theirs instead of the upgraded device.... also, not AT&Ts problem... but instead, your problem. Apple most certainly can give you a device already unlocked, so enjoy that 6 hour drive back to that store.

Actually I'll enjoy my unlock that AT&T politely sent me.

Congratulations. Do you want a medal now? Or a chest to pin it on? It still isn't their fault, so thanks for highlighting their exceptional customer service for solving the service issues of 2 unrelated companies for you.

Yes it was obviously their fault that my device wasn't subsidized, however it was my problem but they had no reason not to unlock it on the spot when I called. My phone was never tied to a contract by me nor it's previous owner. And ultimately their unlock dept made the right decision.

FYI if you don't have anything to add to the situation save yourself some time and don't even respond to posts that don't concern you. Apparently trolling is a major issue here.

Not trying to troll but since the title of your post and opening sentence, you bad mouth AT&T for something that they had no obligation to do for you. And, as it turned out, they helped you out when Apple messed up by not replacing your unlocked phone with an unlocked phone. How exactly was AT&T deserving of the title "one more problem"?

Evidently you don't know what trolling is, nor do you even remember what you wrote. It was not AT&T's issue the device was locked. You went to Apple to replace an unlocked phone - as stated in your post - and the friendly "Geniuses" gave you a locked phone as a replacement. Your issues begin and end right there with the "Geniuses" that were so intelligent they replaced your phone incorrectly, and have nothing to do with your service provider. The smart thing to do would have been to check it on the spot, and make the "Geniuses" that caused the issue correct it right then and right there, instead of misplacing your hate. Basic logic is fun.

You gut's know that there was some legal banter between ATT and Apple on this. Each pointing the finger at each other. At the time ATT was saying that they couldn't because of Apples TOC's with them. Then Apple responding that it wasn't true, and that in fact it was ATT that simply didn't want to.

Take that any way you want to, I don't care, the only thing I know is that there are no absolutes, and that one line responses should be set aside along with fanboys comments singing in the same choir. Mods are not gods, except in the eyes of people who see them as gods!

Not anymore, using a Basic att phone. I'm actually intrigued by the Nokia 920. May have to get into the win world now. I'd love to have that on gsm with AT&T, since I already have a vz maxx. That would be some serious radiation in my pants with one phone in each pocket
