If it does not work, you have risked the entire purchase price. For $50 more, you get a telephone guaranteed to work on Straight Talk.

I see Amazon is selling the Galaxy Proclaim for about $50 less than Straight Talk is ($129). The only problem is that the one on Amazon says it's for "NET 10 Service Only". Yet, some of the reviews make reference to using it on ST. This seems like a great deal if I really can use it on the Verizon network via ST.

It WILL not work.
Straight Talk and NET10 phones cannot be activated on each other's networks.
What service does the Proclaim use on Net 10? If it's also Verizon, why not switch to Net 10? Same service, same company. ST= Net 10. Is the monthly pricing more? I heard it was about the same... They even have a BYOP plan with cheaper SIMs.

Your creed may be interesting, but your deeds are much more convincing.
I know you were talking about Net10 autopay, but speaking of autopay...
My ST autopay is $45.76 per month. Two phones now, for two months. Two line time charges for Straight Talk on the credit card bill: $45.76.
I'm just not seeing all these taxes people keep talking about. I'm in GA, which is a 6% tax state. Here's last month's, and today same charges showed up.
In this thread, it says if you sign up for autopay, you save $2.50 per month. That must be the difference.

Other sites say it's a promotion -- you have to sign up by 9/17/12:
"Save $2.50 on Straight Talk $45 prepaid cell plan when you sign up for auto-refill b4 9/17/12"
If you sign up for ST autopay before the deadline, the savings are permanent? I signed up without even knowing about the promotion.

On ST, if I buy the $45 refill on StraightTalk.com its like $46.xx whereas buying it from Walmart.com is the flat $45. California has no taxes on Prepaid Refills but for some reason StraightTalk.com still charges taxes/fees.
Don't forget that when you sign up for auto-pay, it drops the price to 42.50. So if you're seeing 45.76 on your statement, you're paying 3.22 in tax (7.x%, give or take).
It doesn't say - when I log into my account I see this:
$45 Unlimited customers can save $2.50/month when enrolling in Auto-Refill! This discount applies to your monthly Auto-Refill charges, but will not apply to any Service Plans already in your Straight Talk Reserve.
The breakdown here in Hawaii looks like this:
Hawaii Sales Tax=$2.02
Federal Universal Service Charge=$0.68
Regulatory Cost Recovery Fee=$0.09
30 days=$47.79 I signed up for Auto Refill awhile back so I don't qualify for the $2.50 discount. I could cancel Auto refill for 30 days and then reapply Auto Refill later on. It might work.
Thanks to everyone for the advice. I bought the Proclaim on Net10 as it seems to be the same deal (give or take a couple of dollars). Thanks.
