Tracfone LG840G if use WiFi, no minutes deducted?

Just got LG840G with Tracfone. I was told if I use WiFi at home, I should not get minutes deducted by call/receive. I connected WiFi at home and tried to start Internet, it did not deduct my minutes. However, when I tried to call, it did deduct my minutes. What do I have to do at home with WiFi so making a call would not deduct minutes?

Calls will always deduct minutes as it relies on the cell network. Data such as Internet can use the cell network or wifi. Their are VoIP apps that use voice over wifi but I'm not aware of any that work with the lg840g.

This phone likely only can make calls via the cell phone voice network. It would have to have some sort of installed app or feature like "Wi-Fi calling" to be able to call over Wi-Fi, and that sort of thing is usually reserved for phones running one of the major phone operating systems (Android, iOS, Windows Phone 8, etc.).

I have an lg840g tracfone and the WiFi works and does not deduct minutes for internet. However I downloaded Java apps opera mini 7.1 to my phone and launched some apps and whenever I try to use app it deductes minutes! I don't understand that, is there anyone that can explain this to me?

Are you still on wifi when using the apps it sounds like their kicking you off and putting you on cellular data make sire you have a strong WiFi signal as well.

Check setting to see if there is a way to disable 3g. Be sure wifi is on. You should not get charged for internet.
If the phone uses the phones 3g network you will always lose min. And unless they have a voip app for these java based phones you will always be charged for calls. Know too that even if there are voip apps for these phones unless you call on wifi it will still deduct from your time/units.

Tracfone is pretty much a dedicated time service. This phone having wifi is a first. Under normal circumstances any activity talk, text, data would cost you. So unless you have the phone set to use wifi data only you stand a chance of using you time/units.

The only way to disable 3g on the LG840G is to put the phone in airplane mode, and when you do that you cannot turn wifi on.

My Samsung S390, does allow wifi while in airplane mode.
    Cheers!
