    chidom,

Who is your ISP (not cableprovider.net ) and what do they say to use for incoming and outgoing server settings?
    Cheers!

I must be the biggest dummy ever. I can't even find advanced settings
for e mail on this phone. I'm liking this 840 less and less. I looked at the
on line tutorial and see nothing about setting up e mail. Oh well.
Guess I'll try it later. So far, it's a poc.

If ur setting up email acct w/PUSH:ON, you won't see Advanced Settings.

Not sure why they did not cover email in tutorial.

Let us know what email you are trying to setup. Is it Gmail, or Yahoo, your ISP provider Ex: TimeWarner), or another provider? But don't tell your username or password. You need to keep that private. It seem really troublesome to setup email on your phone. Once you get all your information, write it down and maybe it will make it easier for you. And you are NOT a dummy.

The ISP settings are below. During set up, the phone gave a choice for pop3. I clicked on for incoming, then typed mail.optonline.net. There was no prompt, icon for smtp so I typed the same thing: mail.optonline.net. I receive mail but cannot send. Should I enter manually enter smtp before imputing mail.optonline.net?

    POP3 (Incoming)
    Server: mail.optonline.net
    Port: 110
    SMTP (Outgoing)
    Server: mail.optonline.net
    Port: 587

    chidom,

    Settings above look correct.

1 - Confirm Use SSL is set to Off for Outgoing Mail. Does not make sense to me, but worth a try.

2 - List all the settings you use (that are not listed above - except username and password)
    or
3 - Try deleting your phone email account and create it with PUSH: ON to see if that works. Select Access Point: WLAN (WiFi) , otherwise Access Point: TracfoneWAP will charge units.

Well by golly, I got it where I can send email to my yahoo account.
I can't receive mail from yahoo, but I wonder if it's conflicting with my
pc email ? Can I have e mail going to both my pc's and my phone, or
do I have to make up a different e mail just for the phone ? That
    doesn't sound right.

    Thanks for any advice.

Update. I don't really know what I'm doing, but have manage to
be able to send and receive e mails now at least on the yahoo side
but not he Verizon side. I can send mail using Verizon but not receive
Says my logon has failed but I have all set up like my PC Verizon mail
account. I guess I'll just keep stumbling along, but thanks for the offers
    of help.

Whoops, now I get mail going to Verizon. So it looks like I have it working.
Hope I get mail coming in to the Verizon accout. We'll see.

n2gc - Sound as tho U R finding your way thru the setup on your phone. You keep the same email. As you say it doesn't sound right because it isn't.

I found the following setting for Incoming mail for Verizon: incoming.verizon.net . The error you get "Logon has failed" sounds to me that when you typed your username or password you hit a wrong key.

I read this note and decided to try deleting the accounts and starting over. Didn't understand what the push was all about but finally found that too, and SUCCESS!! I can now get both my gmail and hotmail e-mail.. both read and write. Thank you all for your help.. Its sooo very frustrating when you're soo close and know there's just some little setting that's off..

    Dear Denret:
I registered to post on this forum only to express my genuine gratitude for saving my sanity. After 3 frustrating days of fussing with my new LG840G and being unable to send or receive my Yahoo email and 2 hours on the phone with Tracfone, whose only attempt at solution was to clear cache & cookies, scouring the ATT site, where the 840 was NOT listed as a supported device, I finally found you. "It was all so simple then" Thanks

My yahoo mail account was working fine until a few days ago. Now it only shows no new email and won't send any either, saying not logged in. If I go into the browser I can send and receive thru that account. I still can't delete that account to start over. I can't seem to find the .vcf file to back up my contacts before doing a master reset. Any suggestions other than a master reset and loosing my contacts?

Dutchman, Yahoo may have changed some settings.

I searched a bit and couldn't find anything, but I didn't look long.

Might be worth trying the app that Yahoo! says is here getjar.com/yahoo-mail
