I have an un-activated LG 840. When I go to google mobile using WiFi I too am only offered the Android map app. I do not get along well with small screens.

Can you post the UserAgent string the phone presents?
Here's a good site to get it http://whatsmyuseragent.com/

My S390G with the default browser is:
    SAMSUNG-SGH-S390G/S390UD[TF359782041445586024171416626940571] NetFront/4.2 SMM-MMS/1.2.0 profile/MIDP-2.1 configuration/CLDC-1.1

It looks to me like Google Maps mobile (except for Android) has dissapeared. I had an older version running on my LG800g and the 2.3.2 version I found trashed it. I don't think you can download from Google anymore, so I looked elsewhere. It started to run but crashed when it went looking for "terms and conditions"...said "not found" and locked up.

Yes, it appears Google has dropped the J2ME version.

The Blackberry versions can still be found, but the JAD is very different and it doesn't have a JAR (BB uses some other format)

It works on the LG 840 or just the LG 800?
