Grifter7 I have a similar plan that I recently got through retentions so you might be able to improve upon your deal a bit:

    200 anytime mins
    My 10 Nationwide
    1 gb data
    100 mins long distance
    CID, CW, CC, VM3
Free evenings and weekends at 6 pm
    Unlimted txt/pic/vid

The total for this plan was $60 but they give me a $10 credit each month making it a $50 plan. It is not the best deal out there but it was good for what I need at a fair price. Total with tax in BC it's $56 per month.

    Telus BlackBerry Tour 9630
EPP 17.30, $15 Unlimited Data, Unlimited Incoming (Free), Unlimited Text Messaging (Free), Caller ID (Free), 75 Minutes LD (Free)

My contract is coming up at the end of this year. I'm wondering what is the "proper" route in engaging L&R.

First, when you first call in, you'll just get the frontline CS staff, not L&R. Do you tell them that your contract is ending and you like to see what options are available and go from there? Or would you be a bit firm/aggressive and say "I want to put a port notification on my account"?

Over the years I've just been floating from company to company and didn't renew, so engaging with L&R and contract negotiation are not my strength at all.

When I call in I just ask for L&R right out of the gate...

I don't believe TELUS has a port-out notification system in place like Bell. The nice thing about TELUS is that they only bill you up to your next billing cycle date instead of 30 days like the others. If you're going to port out, the best way is to do so a few days before your billing cycle date. If your sole purpose is to scare them, then just tell them you're considering switching. You should be well versed on competitor offers before calling.

Thanks everyone for their response. I was recently made aware of a corporate plan that I am eligible for @ $50:

Airtime Included 250 Daytime Minutes (per-second billing)
Offer Bonus A $150 Airtime Credit will be applied to your TELUS account for users who are porting a phone number from another wireless carrier to TELUS on a three-year term (limit one credit per account).
Unlimited Evenings & Weekends Unlimited Evenings & Weekends @ 6pm
Data Included 3GB of Data Included
Canadian Long Distance $0.08 Domestic Long Distance Rate
Phone Features Included Call Forwarding Included
    Conference Calling Included
    Call Waiting Included
    Caller ID Included
    Voicemail 25 Included
    Unlimited Local Incoming Calls
Unlimited Local TELUS to TELUS Calling
    Text Messaging Unlimited Canadian Text
    Activation Fee Waived
    System Access Fee Waived
911 Emergency Service Access Fee Waived

Compared to my current retention plan, it costs $10 less but I would lose the 5 unlimited numbers and 3GB of data (it used to be 6GB but late last year Telus chopped that amount in half).

Let's see if Telus would offer something better towards the latter part of the year...

That plan would definitely works for me.

Looking at that corp. plan, they are willing to give $150 port-in credit but nothing if you are an existing Telus customer. The fine print also reads existing Koodo customers are also not eligible for that $150 credit.

^^^ That stinks for Koodo customers... Report back and let us know how you made out with getting the Student plan... I would switch the wife over to it...

Does anyone here know if there is a special corporate plan for GATEWAY Casino's in BC? The reason why I ask is my mom is trying to port over to TELUS and I've asked her many times if she's aware if GATEWAY Casino's has a corporate plan. She's not really good at this negotiating stuff so I figure if GATEWAY Casino's has a corporate plan, it might work well for her. Thanks in advance!

Hi all, first time poster here.

My wife and I are long time Telus customers who have been up for renewal for the past few months. We're both planning to renew into three year plans to get subsidized phones and am wondering if there's any better I can do out there. Spoke with loyalty and retention and was offered the $70 promotional share plan currently advertised on their site, but with instead of unlimited local calling, unlimited nationwide calling. This plan also has 1Gb data, unlimited messaging, caller ID, voicemail, etc. I'm coming off a plan where I previously paid $20 for 200 local mins, $30 for unlimited data (i know nothing like that's offered anymore), and they had comped me local fab five, 200 LD minutes, ID, voicemail. Three years ago I really negotiated hard with L&R and felt I was getting a good deal.

I'm gonna be paying more now and really seems like I'm getting less, especially in the data department. I honestly may not use a lot more than 1GB regularly, but I'm getting a new LTE smartphone which I think will use more data, and I don't want to be constrained.

    Thoughts?

Try pushing for that student 50 plan... The plan they offered is pretty lame... If you want more ask for more... Know what you want before you call in though... IF you cant get it.. Hang up and call back another day...

I've seen this student 50 plan discussed in threads but can't find any indication of it on Telus's site. Is it something that's not "officially" offered anymore? I think something like that will be my best strategy, versus a promotional plan that they want to offer me ($70+). I think the best thing will be to try to get into a lower priced plan (be it this student plan or another), and seeing what they can add onto it that will get to where I want to be. Unlimited nationwide calling is fine, but if I can get more data, a cheaper price and fab 10 nationwide to substitute for the unlt'd calling, I think I'd be set.
