Tried to negotiate for my wife yesterday at the end of her contract. Pretty remarkable how Telus didn't try to do anything to retain a 10+ year customer. Wouldn't even attempt to match an in-market plan from a competitor and the best deal they could provide was an increase in price! Wasn't requesting a hardware upgrade either.

You got unlucky and got a bad rep. You should be able to do better than that.

    Hi guys,

Was thinking of picking up a 7plus in Calgary next week on business (save pst) but saw steeped's post re bell small business lines on redflagdeals so I called them up to see what I could get.

Currently (before tax) with Telus byod grandfather SK plan (I'm in Ontario):
    - Two iphone 5 all paid off
    - unlimited everything, 6gb data shared, visual vm
    - total for both phones is 107.50 (ya, pretty sweet)

Bell small biz offer for 2 year contract:
    - 128gb iphone 7plus for 678 up front
    - 16gb iphone 6s for 0 up front
    - 4gb shared data, 155/month total for unlimited everything, no visual vm but 25 message limit which is fine
    - data overage 10 bucks for 2gb (gotta check if that has to be purchased prior for the month or auto if over limit)
    - 400 bucks credit per line ported in - 800 total over 4 months.

Comparing 2 years (assuming telus lets me continue for 2 more years at this rate)
    - Telus - 2580 for service plus 1179 for iphone 7plus from apple plus 770 for iphone 6s from apple - total 4528 over 24 months
    - Bell - 3720 for service (assuming no data overage and no need for visual voicemail) plus 678 for iphone 7plus less 800 port in - total 3598 over 24 months

So compared to purchasing my own phones outright and staying with Telus, it's almost $1000 savings. Actually more like 600 as we'd sell the iphone 5's for about 200 each.

I guess if I look at it from just keeping our iphone 5's and staying with Telus (or even doing the koodo sk thing for a few more bucks saved), it's an extra expense of $1000 over 2 years. But I'm guessing we'll need new phones or batteries at least in that time. And there's always that nagging gotta upgrade feeling...

Seems like a good deal overall. I could bang my head against the wall calling telus to compare but they won't match business plans and for new phones require a huge jump in price and a measly 100 bucks off the device. I'll also try calling Telus and Rogers small biz lines to compare but their plans are crappier as far as I can tell.

    Questions for you guys:
    - does it look like my math is right?
    - heard of any better small biz or personal deals?
    - what's it like using iphone without visual voicemail? I find there are quite a few errors with vvm anyway. Do messages show up with just phone number or does caller id still work on them?
    - what's your experience with Bell in GTA - all good? Telus has been awesome for coverage.
    - if we stay as is but switch to koodo sk - is it worth it for saving the 10 bucks a month considering they might put the brakes on that loophole at any time?

    Thanks all!

Is it me or have plan prices increased since the new 2 year max contract rule?

I have 7G data, unlimited talk and text, vm 25 and visual vm for $92/m under my business.

However it does not offer roam-like-home so I asked how much I could do this for under personal.

    Same plan, $125 under personal.

    Damn!

Is it worth switching to personal to save a tonne in roaming fees? (depends how much I roam!)

I didn't know they don't let you use that $7/day roaming feature on business plans.

I think you already know the answer. If you go across the boarder often AND need to use your phone, then it may be worth it.
There are alternatives such as buying a SIM from the US or getting a ROAM mobility SIM card.

So from reading , I am gathering that a I can get better pricing under Business.

I have had a business since 2006, just always thought a Business plan would be more money. If so, I may give them a call this week.

Not true (for me). I have one line and a business account. I kept the account as-is and just opted to pay through the nose for data roaming with their bundle pack vs switching to Bellgers for roaming.

So I have 6GB $30 and Talk 50 $30 with free features such as unlimited texting, visual voicemail etc. They said if I renew my contract, I can keep my grandfathered plan, is there anything else I'm missing out? I pay $62 a month

Telus business has $65 North American calling with 5gb data plans. They qualify for subsidies. I renewed one of my lines in Oct and picked up the iPhone 7 plus 256gb for $800.

Their minimum spend is $60 for subsidized phones under business.

I'm up for a new phone and wanted to see what I should work towards. Plan is working for me other than hitting data limit a few times (3GB). I'd like to get that bumped to 5GB and see if I can get 'roam like home' added for US trips (not many).

I'll do 2 yr contract for iPhone 7 128 GB subsidy
